New Delhi: In another major achievement to security forces in fight against Maoists, a couple associated with the banned group CPI (Maoist) surrender before the police and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) on Thursday, February 6.
The surrender took place in Chhattisgarh’s Mohla Manpur Ambagarh Chawki district where the couple identified as Pawan Tulavi and his wife Payem Oyam joined the mainstream citing disillusionment with the Maoist’s ideology.
Both Thulavi and Oyam were was active in the banned organization for 17 years. They were carrying a cumulative bounty of Rs 10 lakh on their heads.
The surrender took place before Superintendent of Police of one of the most violence-hit district Mohla Manpur Ambagarh Chawki, YP Singh and Commandants of ITBP Mukesh Kumar Dhasmana and Vivek Kumar Pandey.
Tulavi alias Maling (37), is a resident of Dorde village under Madanwada police station of Mohla Manpur Ambagarh Chowki district and was active as commander of the press unit of the Maoist group.
He was also an Area Committee Member (ACM) under Maad Division and a reward of Rs 5 lakh has been announced against him by the government. Tulavi joined the extremists’ in the year 2008 as a 20-year-old youth and rose to the rank of ACM in the year 2016.
Tulavi’s wife, Oyam, 27, is a resident of Tadbalala village under Bhairamgarh police station in Bijapur district. She was associated with the Indravati Area Committee of the banned outfit for the past 14 years.
Before parting ways with the outlaws, she was active as a Party Platoon Committee Member (PPCM) in Narayanpur district. She was carrying a bounty of Rs 5 lakh on her head.
Over 900 cadres of the banned group have surrendered before the police and security forces in the past one year. The development reflects the change in scenario in Maoist-hit areas where the tightening grip of forces has led to the surrender of cadres of the banned group in large numbers.
