CPM Kannur district secretary M.V. Jayarajan has admitted that the comments made by P.P. Divya, Kannur District Panchayat president and a prominent CPM leader, were the cause of the death of Naveen Babu, the former ADM of Kannur. He was speaking at a press conference on Saturday on the sidelines of the Kannur CPM district conference. In it, he referred to Divya’s speech during the farewell party for Naveen Babu upon his transfer to Pathanamthitta, his native district, which had an influence on the deceased.

Divya was an uninvited guest at the event, yet she made a speech without any prior invitation. In her speech, she insinuated that Naveen Babu was involved in corrupt practices related to issuing a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for a petrol filling station. The District Collector remained silent despite Divya’s allegations. The very next day, Naveen Babu was supposed to join duties in his home district, but what actually happened was shocking—he was found dead in his Kannur house.

Since then, the state has witnessed CPM’s blatant attempts to protect Divya. Even the individual who accused Naveen Babu, a medical college employee, failed miserably to substantiate his allegations.

As public outrage against Divya and CPM intensified, she was arrested and remanded. However, the party refused to hold her accountable. Despite Naveen Babu and his family being associated with the CPM, the party chose to defend Divya.

In October 2024, The CPM has removed P P Divya from her position as District Panchayat President amid growing backlash following the alleged suicide of Additional District Magistrate Naveen Babu. A police case has been registered against her.

Now, CPM leader Jayarajan seems to have contradicted his earlier statements regarding Divya’s controversial remarks. Previously, he had justified her comments as being made with good intentions. However, during a recent press conference held on the sidelines of the Kannur CPM district conference, he made a complete turnaround.

Even during the press conference, which was meant to discuss the district conference, the party leadership continued to defend Divya. However, the situation has now changed, thanks to the sharp criticism raised during the district conference against her. The report submitted at the conference stated that Divya’s speech was not justifiable.

Reports suggest that several delegates at the district conference condemned Divya’s farewell speech as improper. Ultimately, within just 24 hours, district secretary M.V. Jayarajan made a dramatic reversal and revealed the facts before the media.

Communists in Kerala, under the leadership of CM Pinarayi Vijayan, have perfected the art of twisting narratives and turning them into a cycle of lies that keeps the truth out of reach. The case of Naveen Babu’s death and the allegations against P.P. Divya followed the same pattern—one day she was accused, the next she was absolved—playing out like a calculated game designed to serve the interests of the party politburo and its masters.
