Raipur: Chhattisgarh Police on Thursday, January 30 launched a massive verification drive to identify illegal migrants from other states in Raipur. The police detained over 2000 people residing in separate area of the capital city for verification.
Under a special campaign called Samadhan, the police raided several parts of the city in wee hours of Thursday. The raids were carried out with an aim to curb criminals along crime prevention and verification, informed police in an official statement.

“We were receiving information from various Police Stations that people from other states have been living here and working. Police did not have information on all these people and neither have their landlords informed the police about their identity. A recce and survey was carried out by our personnel after which all the suspects were brought here for verification,” said ASP, Lakhan Patle.

“Action will be taken against those found suspicious. This will cause a curb in the crime in the city. If we find a fake Aadhar card in the process, an investigation will be carried out and if the person is found to be of another Nationality, due action will be taken. Nearly 2,056 people have been brought here,” he added.
According to the reports, majority of the people brought for the verification purpose are from West Bangal, Bihar, Jammu Kashmir and northeastern states, residing in Raipur. After verification of their documents the police later allowed the detained people to return.
Meanwhile reacting to the development, Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao on Thursday said that illegal residents have been causing law and order issues in Raipur, prompting the administration to take strict action against them.
“Illegal residents are creating law and order issues in the city (Raipur). It poses a danger to the law and order situation and also to the residents living in the city. These people don’t have identities and nothing is known about their whereabouts, hence the administration has decided to take serious action against those living illegally,” said Sao.

Taking a dig at the Congress party, Arun Sao further remarked that, “Action against Rohingyas and Bangladeshis has been going on for a long time, but the Congress habitually links everything to elections. This is for the safety of the citizens of the city and the entire state.”
Notably, Chhattisgarh Home Minister and Deputy CM Vijay Sharma on December 9 announced that approximately 850 illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators have been deported from the state.
Sharma disclosed that 500 infiltrators were deported from Bastar and 350 from Kawardha, while 46 others from Kondagaon are currently in custody, awaiting deportation. He assured that authorities are acting swiftly on reports of illegal immigrants and will continue to act promptly against such individuals.
