Mahakumbh Nagar: Ahead of the second “Amrit Snan” on Mauni Amavasya, the Municipal Corporation has rolled out extensive arrangements to ensure the cleanliness and convenience of devotees across the city. From setting up rest areas to providing drinking water and toilet facilities, every detail has been carefully planned. Special attention is being given to cleanliness, with mechanized cleaning of roads and toilets being carried out three times daily. Additionally, with the city designated as a no-vehicle zone for three days, a dedicated master plan for garbage disposal has been put into action.
Additional Municipal Commissioner Dipendra Kumar Yadav stated that an estimated 10 crore devotees are expected in the city on Mauni Amavasya. “To accommodate the large number of devotees, the Municipal Corporation has ensured facilities for everyone traveling from distant places.
To manage the crowd, 88 holding areas have been set up across the city, equipped with drinking water, toilets, electricity, and bonfires. These holding areas are effectively helping in crowd management, with many devotees utilizing the facilities and resting here.”
He further added that tent-based rest areas have been established along key routes, including MG Marg, Leader Road to Sangam via Bagad Dharamshala, and from Prayag Station to Indian Press Chauraha to GT Jawahar. In addition to these, the Municipal Corporation has also set up 38 temporary shelters and 8-night shelters, which are providing overnight stay facilities for devotees.
The Additional Commissioner stated that bonfires have been arranged in all holding areas, with additional bonfires being lit at night along main roads to provide warmth to devotees.
“All Sulabh complexes in the city have been made free for public use from January 28 to 30, with robust cleaning arrangements in place. Toilets and roads are being cleaned using mechanized systems three times daily. Mobile toilets have also been installed at key locations such as parking areas, bus stands, railway stations, and places with nearby sewer lines to facilitate easy maintenance. Due to the heavy crowds, these mobile toilets are filled within 2 to 4 hours and are being cleaned continuously under strict monitoring by dedicated teams,” he informed.
He added that since the entire city has been declared a no-vehicle zone, the Municipal Corporation’s garbage vehicles cannot access Baswar for three days. “To address this, our staff is conducting door-to-door garbage collection and manually picking up waste from roads. Collected waste is being temporarily stored in RC machines or dumped in pre-identified empty plots near high-waste-generating areas, which are then covered with tarpaulin.”
The Additional Commissioner also noted the widespread organization of Bhandaras across the city. “Safai Mitras are ensuring cleanliness at these Bhandara sites, and liner bags have been placed at various locations to collect waste. While the city typically generates 700 tons of garbage daily, an estimated 1,000 to 1,500 tons of garbage is expected during these three days. Comprehensive arrangements have already been made for its proper disposal.”
