Patna: In a major catch for security forces, a regional commander of the banned CPI (Maoist), was nabbed in a swift operation launched by a joint team of Bihar police and Special Task Force (STF), police said on Sunday, January 12.

Notorious Maoist commander Rahul Yadav alias Vikas (53) was arrested near raymond showroom at Rafiganj-Shivganj on Saturday, said Aurangabad police in an official statement issued.

The operation was launched on the basis of CCTV footage and intel inputs gathered via technical investigation and human intelligence, added the statement further.

Yadav, a resident of Tulsi Bigha under Aanti police station limits of Gaya district was wanted in connection with a case registered at Dev police station limits and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to nab him. He was named in around two dozen cases.

The arrested accused confessed about his crime during initial interrogation, and was subsequently sent to judicial custody.

The police along with the security forces have amplified their operation against the Maoists in the state lately, nabbing over 120 Maoist cadres in the year 2024 alone.

According to the police, as many as 11 forward operating bases (FOB) have been established in the remote violence-hit areas of the state, providing security cover to the residents of far fledged areas, earlier dominated by the extremists.

Notably only a handful of districts adjoining the southern borders of the state stands partially affected by the Maoist insurgency at present, marking a significant drop from 22 districts marred by red terror around a decade ago.
