Guwahati:  Sensational incident rocks Guwahati city as a Muslim man stabbed Hindu woman on a busy street at 7pm on January 10, evening. As per report, the Muslim man Azul Haque stabbed a woman in the busy Hatigaon area of the city at around 7 pm while the lady was returning home from the market. The woman who is a mother of three children was long being harassed by Azul Haque.

The attacker who hails from Dhubri district is also married and pressuring the lady to enter into a relationship with him. But the lady continuously denied his inappropriate proposal. As per source she informed her husband and family about the harassment and her husband even warned Azul Haque not to repeat the same mistake again. After the warning from her husband and family Azul Haque didn’t stop.

He again started harassing the victim whenever he gets a chance as both of them live in the same area. On 10th January, the victim was returning home from the nearby market and Azul stopped her on the road. Eyewitness said that they had some arguments and suddenly Azul attacked the lady with a sharp weapon on her neck.

The victim fell down immediately. Nearby people who saw the incident came forward and captured attacker Azul Haque. Police was informed immediately, and the victim was rushed to Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH). Doctors said that the lady had multiple injuries in her neck and excessive bleeding.

But her condition is said to be stable. Azul Haque was bitten by the people who captured him after the incident. Police took him in custody and sent him for medical checkup. DCP Mrinal Deka told reporters that while Azul Haque was taken back to police station at around 2.30 am he tried to escape attacking a constable.

He was warned by the police to stop but he tried to escape defying the police warning. Police had to resort to fire to bar him from escaping. Azul Haque was injured with three bullet injuries on his leg, DCP Deka said. City police are investigating the case as Azul Haque had a criminal record in Dhubri district also. Sources said that he was involved in multiple robberies in Dhubri district near the Bangladesh border.

The victim’s family said that they should have informed the police earlier as Azul Haque was harassing the victim for a long time. The victim’s sister said that they didn’t want to involve themselves in police matters and so didn’t lodge an FIR, but they now regret it as her sister is paying the price for the mistake of not informing police.
