Meanwhile the news of the seizure triggered an immediate outrage in the local Hindu activists who soon started a protest, demanding swift action against the accused involved in the act.

The incident has also stirred a political tug of war with Congress leader Sushil Anand Shukla accusing the increase in cow smuggling in the BJP government. He further alleged that cow smugglers are being protected in the incumbent government.

Hitting back on the allegations, senior BJP leader Kedar Kashyap said “That we (BJP workers) all are protectors and worshippers of mother cow. The Chief Minister intends that no such incident should happen in the state and to take strict against such people. Strict action will be taken accordingly.”

Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao also reacted on the incident, saying that “the action taken in the cow smuggling case itself reflects that our government is serious on the issue, it is evident that our government is strict on this. Related people in the case have been arrested.”

“The government will continue to act on this issue with all seriousness and whatever our commitments are we are not going to deviate from those,” he added.

Sample of the seized meat was sent to lab for testing. The case is further being investigated by the police.
