Gadchiroli: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday, January 1, 2025 inaugurated the Gatta-Gardewada-Wangeturi road and Tadguda Bridge in Maoist-hit Gadchiroli district. The CM also launched the bus service connecting Wangeturi-Gardevada-Gatta-Aheri.
Interacting with the media personnel on the occasion the CM remarked that the state is moving towards becoming free from the Maoist menace. “Maharashtra is moving towards becoming free of Naxalism(Maoism) as Maoist cadres are surrendering to police and the movement of the outlaws is not attracting the new recruits,” said the CM.
Highlighting the lack of infrastructure due to the Maoist’s presence in the district the CM further said that “this area of Gadchiroli, where we are standing, did not even have a road and the Maoists had complete dominance here. Today, ending that dominance, we have built 2 big posts here and have constructed a road and bridge connecting directly to Chhattisgarh. In a way, after 75 years, the people here will get to see the state transport bus. Therefore, I believe that this is a very important day.”
“We had said that Gadchiroli will not be the last district of Maharashtra, it will be the first district of Maharashtra and we have started it. Now the Maoists do not find new people here, there is no recruitment. Big cadres are surrendering, so it is heading towards an end,” he added.
The CM also paid a visit to the security personnel of C-60 unit of Maharashtra police and distributed sweet among them.
Two Maoist cadres carrying a cumulative bounty of Rs 8 lakh surrendered before the Maharashtra police on December 21. One of the men identified as Ramsu Durgus Poyam was active as an Area Committee Member and was carrying a bounty of Rs6 lakh on his head.
With the latest addition, the tally of the Maoists surrender before the police in Gadchiroli in the last two years reached to 33 with 20 of the surrender occurring in the last twelve months alone. Significantly Gadchiroli along with Gondia are the only two districts remain affected by the red terror in the state.
