The recent scandal involving Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s wife, B.M. Parvati, and the allocation of 14 plots by the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) has sparked widespread outrage and a crisis of trust in local governance. At the heart of this controversy is social activist and whistleblower Snehamayi Krishna, who has come forward with serious allegations of financial coercion and attempts to silence him in his pursuit of justice.

The controversy centers on the contentious land allocations, which have drawn scrutiny over potential favoritism and corruption. Allegations suggest these plots were granted under questionable circumstances. Krishna, a long-time crusader against corruption and maladministration, brought the issue to light by filing a formal complaint demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the allocation process. His actions, aimed at uncovering the truth, have put him in direct conflict with influential political figures.

According to Krishna, his troubles began when he was approached by an individual claiming to be a close aide of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s wife. He alleges that he was offered a substantial bribe to withdraw his complaint. “They wanted me to back off,” Krishna stated. “When I refused, the pressure escalated, with further attempts to intimidate me and my family.”

Among the key figures implicated in this unfolding drama are Mysore politician Harsha and local journalist Srinidhi. Harsha has publicly claimed connections to Parvati Siddaramaiah, portraying himself as a protector of her interests and those of the Chief Minister’s family. Srinidhi allegedly acted as an intermediary, facilitating conversations between Krishna and Harsha. In response to Krishna’s claims, formal complaints have been filed against both individuals, supported by videotapes and phone records that serve as critical evidence.

The pivotal exchanges reportedly occurred on December 13 at the MUDA headquarters. Harsha allegedly urged Krishna to withdraw his CBI inquiry application, assuring him that the ongoing Lokayukta investigation would suffice. “During our meeting, he explicitly stated, ‘The CBI inquiry is our problem. You shouldn’t worry about it,’” Krishna recounted. Harsha purportedly offered a significant bribe during these discussions, demonstrating the lengths to which he was willing to go to derail Krishna’s efforts.

Further escalation occurred on December 15, when Harsha and Srinidhi visited Krishna’s home. This time, they allegedly targeted his son, attempting to persuade him to influence his father’s withdrawal from the case. Harsha reportedly displayed a video of a bag filled with cash, boasting about a prior payout of Rs 1.5 crore to another activist and offering a similar sum to Krishna. Despite these overtures, Krishna and his son stood firm in their refusal.

Krishna described the emotional toll of these experiences. “Some individuals claiming to represent Parvati’s side have attempted to lure me and my family with money. Their actions are unacceptable, and I demand accountability,” he stated. This ordeal, he added, highlights the pervasive culture of fear and corruption that can infiltrate governance.

Details of the alleged coercion began to emerge on December 12, when individuals claiming to represent Parvati Siddaramaiah reportedly visited Krishna’s residence. They expressed concern for the mental well-being of the Chief Minister’s wife, requesting Krishna to drop his investigation request. Despite their appeals, Krishna remained resolute, refusing to be swayed.

Following his refusal, Krishna alleges he became the target of a retaliatory false case filed against him at the K.R. Police Station. He believes this was orchestrated to intimidate him into submission. Seeking legal counsel in Bengaluru, Krishna intensified his efforts to ensure his story was heard. Subsequent visits from Harsha and Srinidhi, which included threats and coercion, further heightened his fears for his family’s safety.

On January 18, Krishna escalated his complaints by submitting detailed documents to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Bengaluru. The following day, he lodged complaints with the Lokayukta SP and the city police commissioner, providing recordings of his interactions with the accused as evidence. “I have CCTV footage capturing the visits and conversations. These recordings are indisputable proof of their actions,” Krishna asserted.

In his statements, Krishna did not shy away from accusing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of misusing his political power. “Initially, they tried to entice me with money. When that failed, it appears the Chief Minister is leveraging his authority to intimidate and falsely charge me,” he alleged. These assertions have sent shockwaves through the political landscape, prompting broader discussions about ethics and integrity in governance.

The ramifications of this scandal extend beyond the individuals directly involved. The allegations have cast a shadow over the state government, prompting citizens to demand transparency and accountability. Political observers warn that the controversy could have far-reaching implications, potentially swaying public opinion and influencing upcoming elections. Voters may critically evaluate the ruling party’s commitment to combating corruption if these allegations are substantiated.

As the investigation progresses, Krishna remains steadfast in his pursuit of truth and justice, undeterred by intimidation. His allegations have ignited a broader conversation about the challenges faced by whistleblowers who confront powerful political families entrenched in the system. The MUDA scandal stands as a potential turning point for Siddaramaiah’s administration and a pivotal moment in Karnataka’s political history.

This unfolding story is a stark reminder of the risks faced by those who challenge entrenched power structures. It underscores the need for impartial oversight and rigorous scrutiny to ensure accountability and uphold the rule of law. As the case develops, all eyes remain on the state government, with the public demanding justice and transparency in the face of these grave allegations.
