In Balrampur district, Mohammad Shahid, an assistant teacher at a local government school, has been accused of inappropriate behaviour towards students. The allegations surfaced when six eighth-grade female students reported that Shahid engaged in misconduct during an examination session. According to their accounts, the teacher not only lifted them onto his lap but also marked their cheeks and backs with chalk in an objectionable manner.

The students immediately brought this matter to the attention of the school warden and headmaster Mohammad Ismail. However, their complaints were initially dismissed, and Shahid reportedly threatened them to suppress the issue, warning them against further disclosures.

The incident only came to public notice when the students confided in their family members during a visit to the school hostel. Incensed by the allegations, relatives stormed the school premises on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, demanding accountability and stringent action against Shahid. Their outcry prompted a response from the school administration.

Administrative Response

Sadanand Kushwaha, the Block Education Officer (BEO) of the area, took action by visiting the school. He recorded the statements of the aggrieved students and proceeded to file a formal complaint against the accused teacher, Mohammad Shahid. The statements were officially documented at Ramanujganj police station, where an FIR was registered.

Police Action

The local police, acknowledging the gravity of the accusations, stated that they are pursuing legal actions against Shahid. They emphasized that the safety of the students is a priority, and measures are being implemented to ensure their protection. The police are committed to conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.

BEO Kushwaha has publicly assured that no leniency will be shown towards the accused if found guilty. He reiterated the commitment of the educational authorities to uphold the safety and dignity of students, promising that the case would be handled with the utmost seriousness.

Public Reaction

The community and parents of the students have expressed outrage over the incident, calling for systemic changes to prevent such occurrences in the future. There’s a growing demand for better monitoring and accountability within educational institutions to safeguard students from harassment and abuse.

This case has once again brought to light the critical need for vigilance in schools to protect students from potential abuse by those in positions of trust. As the investigation proceeds, all eyes will be on the legal and educational systems to see how justice is served and preventive measures are strengthened.
