In Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, a Muslim teacher has allegedly compelled a minor Hindu student enrolled in an intermediate college into marrying him. The accused, Muhammad Shahid, talked about converting her to Islam, engaged in inappropriate behaviour by holding her hand, and offered her a sum of Rs 1 lakh. Furthermore, he is said to have threatened the victim with academic failure should she decline to enter into a Nikah with him. The police have since taken Shahid into custody.
Reports say that Muhammad Shahid, a maths teacher at Rashtriya Inter College in the Mandi Dhanora area of Amroha, molested a minor Hindu girl. After allegedly molesting the Hindu victim, Shahid asked the girl to do nikah with him. He expressed his affection for the girl who is several years his junior. Shahid, a resident of Sambhal district, is a teacher for ninth-grade students.
The Hindu girl informed her family about the actions of the accused, Shahid. Her family then reported the matter to the college principal, but no action was taken.
According to the complaint, days later, the accused, Shahid, made inappropriate gestures towards the Hindu girl in the classroom. He offered her Rs 1 lakh and pressured her to marry him. Shahid also attempted to coerce the girl into converting to Islam and threatened her, saying that if she refused to marry him, he would fail her.
The terrified Hindu girl returned home and shared the incident with her family. In response, her family contacted the police and also staged a protest at the college. Meanwhile, the accused, Shahid, attempted to flee the campus. Upon learning of the incident, activists from the Bajrang Dal and Vishva Hindu Parishad arrived at the college, demanding action against Shahid for his actions towards the Hindu girl.
The police took swift action, arresting Shahid, and a case has been filed against him under relevant sections, including POCSO. The college administration has also suspended him pending further investigation.
