NEW DELHI: BJP leader Shehzad Poonawala on Friday stepped up his attacks on Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for his remarks following allegations by US prosecutors against Gautam Adani and others in a purported bribery scam. Reacting to the remarks, Poonawala said that some people start opposing the economic progress of the country while opposing a person or a party.
In a veiled attack, he also accused the Congress and Rahul Gandhi of becoming “puppets” of certain foreign powers.
Speaking to ANI, Poonawala said, “Some people start opposing the economic progress of the country while opposing a person or a party. Some people sitting in our country have become puppets of certain foreign powers and sleeper cells of the economic anarchy. Is it a coincidence that before the beginning of the Parliament session some or the other baseless foreign report emerges and the Parliament session is hijacked? Sometimes it is Pegasus report, Rafael report, Hindenburg report and now there is a new report.”

Referring to the documents, he further said that whatever is in the report are allegations against those states where there were Congress or INDIA Alliance governments, however, he stressed that allegations are yet to be proven.
“The report says that the allegations are yet to be proven. The allegations are against those states where there were Congress or INDIA Alliance governments. Congress has become a mouthpiece of such powers. Is Congress with those forces that want to harm the country? They want to harm the economic interests by being the puppet of people like Soros.” he said.
Notably on Thursday Poonawala questioned the Congress over its criticism of Gautam Adani, asking why the party accepts donations and grants major projects to the Adani Group if it considers the group corrupt.
“If the Congress considers a particular group to be very corrupt, why does it take donations from that group in Telangana? Why does it accept an investment of Rs 12,000 crore in Telangana? Why was this group given major projects when Congress was in power in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh?” Poonwalla said.
Opposition parties on Thursday pressed for a JPC probe into alleged bribery allegations with Congress leader Jairam Ramesh alleging that a key player in the “corruption scandal” is the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), a Government of India company.
After US prosecutors charged Gautam Adani and others in an alleged bribery case, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi demanded Adani’s arrest, claiming it is “clear” and “established” that the Adani Group Chairman has violated both American and Indian laws.
The Leader of the Opposition also expressed concern, questioning why Adani remains a “free man” in India. He said, “Chief Ministers have been arrested, and Adani has allegedly committed a Rs2,000 crore scam among others, but there is no investigation.”
The Adani Group has denied the allegations made by the US Department of Justice and the US Securities and Exchange Commission against directors of Adani Green. While the BJP said the law will take its own course and slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. (ANI)
