Imphal: Army has been called out to restore peace in the violence-hit Manipur. Soldiers in Manipur’s capital, Imphal, have already started doing flag marches through the streets after the army was called into action. Lieutenant General Abhijit S. Pendharkar, the GOC of the Indian Army’s Spear Corps, is personally keeping an eye on the situation alongside CRPF DG Anish Dayal Singh. Lt Gen Abhijit S. Pendharkar, the Indian Army’s Spear Corps GOC, arrives in Manipur to assess the situation amid unrest in the state.
Lieutenant General Abhijit S. Pendharkar, the General Officer of the Indian Army’s Spear Corps, arrived in Manipur on 17th November evening. Shortly after arriving in Manipur in the midst of the stressful situation, GOC Lieutenant General went to the army headquarters in Leimakhong, where he received a report on the fresh violent situation of the state. Amid the intensifying conflict, CRPF DG Aneesh Dayal also arrived in Manipur. The visit coincides with an increase in tension following the November 16 protests that stormed the homes of many ministers and MLAs.
Meanwhile, “High-Level Security Meeting” hosted by Assam Rifles in Churachandpur, Manipur today. Assam Rifles convened the crucial security coordination conference in Lailophai, Manipur’s Churachandpur district. DIG Kakching and Thoubal, DC Kakching, SP Kakching, and SI Churachandpur district were among the top officials from Assam Rifles, Manipur police, BSF, and ITBP who attended a high-level security meeting.
It should be mentioned that during the November 16 protest violent protesters in Manipur set fire to or vandalised the homes of 13 politicians, including a state minister. Nine BJP MLAs, one Congress MLA, one JD(U) representative, and one independent MLA’s residences were among them. In light of the current agitation, Union Home Minister Amit Shah convened a high-level conference in Delhi on 17th November to assess the security situation in Manipur. Shah is due to conduct a more extensive review of the situation tomorrow, focusing on efforts to restore stability.
Meanwhile, NDA partner and Meghlaya ruling party NPP withdrew support from Manipur BJP led government. In a letter to BJP’s National President JP Nadda, Meghalaya CM Conrad K Sangma wrote, “The NPP is extremely concerned about the state of peace and order in Manipur, and the Biren Singh government has failed miserably to tackle the matter. So the NPP is withdrawing support from the Biren Singh government.”
