RAIPUR: As many as five Maoists have been killed in an encounter that broke out between the security forces and armed cadres of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) inside the dense forest of Abujhmadh at Kanker-Narayanpur border in Chhattisgarh on Saturday morning November 16.
The operation was launched by a joint team of Border Security Force (BSF) and Special Task Force (STF) on Friday night, eventually leading to the neutralisation of as many as five Maoist cadres. Two of the security personnel have also sustained injuries during the attack. The injured personnel were later airlifted to state capital Raipur where they are being treated.

A large cache of weapon along with the bodies of five Maoists killed in the action has been recovered from the site of the encounter. The exchange of fire is still underway in the area and the numbers of Maoists killed in the gunfight may increase. The development has been confirmed by the senior officials of the police.

“So far, the bodies of 5 Naxalites (Maoists) have been recovered. A large quantity of weapons have also been recovered. The search operation is going on. 2 jawans have been injured in the encounter. They are out of danger. Necessary arrangements are being made for better treatment of both the injured jawans. Exchange of fire still underway,” said IG Bastar range Sundarraj P.
Meanwhile reacting to the development Chhattisgarh Deputy CM Arun Sao said, “As per the promise, the double-engine government is taking strong steps for making Bastar Naxal-free. Our security forces are going to remote areas and fighting the Naxalites. We are moving Bastar towards development by gradually making it Naxal-free.”
Earlier bodies of three Naxals, including of a platoon commander with a bounty of Rs 8 lakh, killed in an encounter in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh, were recovered by security forces on November 9. A large cache of weapons was also recovered from the area.
The encounter took place on November 8 between security forces from the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the elite CoBRA unit and the Maoists in the forested hills of Rekhapalli-Komathpalli, located at the tri-junction of Usoor-Basaguda-Pamed (With inputs from agencies).
