NEW DELHI: Canadian PM Justin Trudeau is in dock as India’s Supreme Court lawyer Vineet Jindal has filed a petition in the Canadian Supreme Court seeking probe against all those who were involved in the recent attack on the Hindu temple in Brampton including the Khalistani separatists. Jindal, submitted the petition digitally to Chief Justice Richard Wagner on Saturday, citing the need for accountability for those involved in the assault on Hindu devotees and the Hindu Sabha Temple

Key Points of the Petition Filed Against Trudeau

In his appeal, Jindal urges the Canadian Supreme Court to oversee an investigation into the Peel Police officers’ handling of the incident, as well as the activities of pro-Khalistan groups like Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), believed to be responsible for inciting violence. The petition specifically seeks measures to ensure that perpetrators are held accountable and that worship sites for the Hindu community in Canada are provided adequate security. Jindal highlighted that the frequency of violent incidents against Hindu community spaces has created an urgent need for an intervention that protects religious freedoms.

Jindal spoke to Organiser and mentioned details about his petition and why he filed it. Jindal stated,” It has been known how the current Justin Trudeau government is responding to our Indian government’s requests to take action against Khalistani terrorists.  On November 3, there was an attack on a Hindu Sabha temple and Hindu devotees by pro-Khalistani groups. Even peel police officers assaulted Hindu devotees during this incident. Since then, Hindus have been under attack from all fronts, including political and administrative sectors, in Canada. At this time, our Hindu brothers in Canada are under great distress. Khalistani terrorist organizations, such as the Khalistan Tiger Force and Sikhs for Justice, with alleged support from the Trudeau government, are targeting the youth by implicating them in false cases of violence and hate. I am taking this step to send a message through the highest court of Canada, urging them to protect the life and liberty of every Hindu residing in Canada.”

Jindal exuded confidence that in Canada’s judicial system and hoped that the petition would be accepted and stringent action will be taken against those who per[petrated violence against the Hindus in canada.

Know all about the attack on the devotees at Hindu Sabha Temple

The attack on the Hindu devotees took place on November 3, outside the Hindu Sabha Temple in Brampton. According to witnesses and footage shared by the Hindu Canadian Foundation, Khalistani extremists, brandishing Khalistan flags, aggressively confronted Hindu devotees gathered for a program jointly organized by temple authorities and the Indian consulate. The situation quickly escalated, with protestors clashing with the temple-goers, which included families with children, women, and elderly attendees. The video footage circulating on social media captured the chaotic scenes as extremists disrupted the event and engaged in physical altercations with attendees.

Following the incident, India expressed its condemnation, calling on Canadian authorities to ensure the safety of its citizens and religious sites in the country. India’s Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasised, “We condemn the violence instigated by extremists and separatists at the Hindu Sabha Temple. We urge the Canadian government to ensure protection for all places of worship against such attacks.”

India rejects claims made by Traudeau

Khalistani Influence in Canada

The recent attack in Bramptom is just one of several instances of escalated tension between pro-Khalistan activists and the Indian diaspora in Canada. Reports indicate a growing concern among the Hindu Canadian community over increasing pro-Khalistan activities, which have at times led to confrontations.

In September, diplomatic tensions flared after Trudeau made comments implicating the Indian government in the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a pro-Khalistani activist in British Columbia.

India dismissed the claims as “absurd,” straining diplomatic ties between the two nations.

Meanwhile, this is not the first attack on the Hindus and their temples in Canada. It was in June 2024 that the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Edmonton was also vandalised allegedly by Khalistani supporters, who spray-painted graffiti on the walls. Repeated attacks on the Hindus in Canada by the Khalistanis pose severe threat to their life and security. Jindal took upon himself the task to file the petition owing to the lack of action by the Canadian government which did not arrest all those who were involved in the violence despite several videoes of those who were involved in the crime being available on various social media and other platforms.
