The Indian Army has intensified vigil along the Line of Control in J&K after the Union Territory witnessed a surge in the number of terror attacks.

The Army is leaving nothing to chance and has even deployed state-of-the-art drones and monitoring systems to detect and deter activity in hard-to-reach areas.

On October 24, three soldiers and two civilian porters were killed after terrorists ambushed an Army vehicle in the BNotapathr area near the ski resort in Gulmarg, North Kashmir.

There are Intelligence reports about heightened activity by the Pakistani terrorists in J&K in the days to come. The warning states that large-scale infiltrations are likely to be attempted by Pakistan.

The Intelligence wing of the Indian Army has said that there are several launch pads across the border and scores of terrorists will try and infiltrate into J&K. The areas in focus include the Tulail Gurez, Machil and Gulmarg in North Kashmir.

These intensified efforts by the terrorists have led to enhanced patrols along the LoC and also key routes. A list of vulnerable areas too have been prepared and the vigil is very high in these areas. The main aim is to stop the terrorists from entering into the crowded areas as there is every possibility that the primary attack would be on the civilians.

To enhance the capabilities of the Indian Army, there are quadcopter, modern weapons, state of the art surveillance equipments and drones, which will help monitor the movement of the terrorists. This would go a long way in helping the Indian Army to eliminate the terrorists and also monitor any suspicious movements.

Following the attacks and the reports of attempted infiltrations, a high level meeting was held in New Delhi. During the meeting the top security brass discussed ways to stop the terror attacks in J&K and also prevent infiltrations.  The Indian Army has been told to go all out and put an end to this menace. Officials said that Pakistan would make desperate attempts to disrupt peace in the Valley. The fact that the elections in the Union Territory passed off peacefully is something very hard for Islamabad to digest, the official said.

Three terrorists gunned down

Meanwhile in another development, three terrorists were gunned down in an encounter with the security forces in J&K ‘s Akhnoor on Tuesday. They may have infiltrated recently and were planning on carrying out a major attack, the security grid officials said.

On Monday it was this trio which had fired at an Army ambulance which was part of a convoy moving nearing the LoC. In the firing, a four year valiant Army dog Phantom lost his life.

“It looks like they came from some back areas as they were aware of the terrain. This is not fresh infiltration as per our information.” Major General Sameer Srivastava, GOC 10 Infantry Division said.

The locals had alleged that two schoolboys had seen the terrorists enter the Shiv Temple with their shoes on.

The investigations conducted against the trio suggests that they have been part of the Jaish-e-Mohammad. The pattern of attacks which involves targeting convoys is a signature of the Jaish-e-Mohammad.
