The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) Telangana submitted a formal memorandum to Governor Jishnu Dev Varma on October 21, calling for an immediate action against police brutality and suspects involved in the recent vandalization of the Mutyalamma temple in Secunderabad. The incident, which took place on Saturday near the temple in Secunderabad, saw peaceful Hindu protesters being subjected to a violent police lathi-charge, leaving several Hindu devotees severely injured. The VHP has condemned both the police overreach and the lack of action against those responsible for the attack on the temple, calling it a failure of the Telangana government and police intelligence department in safeguarding Hindu religious sentiments.

In addition to accusing the police of registering illegal cases against Hindu devotees and harassing them, the VHP’s representation draws attention to the vandalism of the Mutyalamma temple, allegedly carried out by Muslim youth in the days leading up to the October 19 protest. The attack on the temple has inflamed communal tensions in Secunderabad, with Hindu organizations accusing the Telangana government of turning a blind eye to attacks on Hindu places of worship and appeasement to the Muslim community.

The VHP Telangana appealed to the Governor to intervene and ensure that justice is served by dismissing the illegal cases registered against Hindu devotees who were part of the peaceful protest at Mutyalamma temple. VHP Telangana also seeks the immediate suspension of the police officers responsible for the brutal lathi-charge on innocent protesters, which resulted in severe injuries. This harsh police action, according to the VHP, was an intentional attempt to cover up their own failure in managing the situation.

VHP also raises alarm over a serious security threat involving Munavar Jama, who allegedly conducted terrorist training sessions at the Metropolis hotel. Despite the gravity of the accusations, Munavar Jama has not been arrested, and around 150 individuals who attended the illegal training have been allowed to escape. The inaction and silence of the police in this matter are deeply troubling, and VHP Telangana questions why the authorities are concealing the whereabouts of these suspects and failing to apprehend them.

Moreover, VHP Telangana strongly urges the Governor to investigate why the state government appears to be protecting Munavar Jama and his network, without conducting a full inquiry into the scale of the terrorist training operation and the potential threat to national security.

According to the VHP, around 150 individuals trained by Jama remain at large, posing a significant threat to national security. The organization questions why the police have failed to arrest Jama and his associates, hinting at political protection from the Telangana government.

At the same time, VHP accused police of engaging in illegal arrests and harassing Hindu activists who did not even participate in the rally. VHP Telangana calls this an anti-democratic move aimed at suppressing those who are peacefully demanding justice. Immediate action is needed to stop these injustices and safeguard the interests of the Hindu community.

In addition to the ongoing concerns, VHP Telangana also highlighted a disturbing incident that took place on October 20, 2024, in Brahmanuwadi near Yakatpura railway station, where a 15-year-old boy named Kishan narrowly escaped an attempted murder by a large Muslim mob. The mob had gathered in response to a photo posted by Kishan, unaware of its implications, on his phone status. Despite the gravity of the situation and the terror inflicted on the area, no cases have been registered against the attackers. VHP demands that the South Zone DCP take immediate action to ensure the safety of the victims and register cases against those who attempted to commit murder, bringing justice to those responsible for creating such fear and chaos.

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) Telangana representation team, led by prominent members, met with the Governor to submit their urgent appeal. The delegation included Ramraju, Dr. Sunitha Rammohan Reddy, Dr. Ram Singh, Bhanu Prasad, Madhusudhan, U. Shivaramulu, and Kishore Kumar.

Background and Developments

The controversy began with the vandalization of the Mutyalamma temple in Secunderabad by a group of Muslim. Despite the gravity of the incident, the Telangana Congress government and local police were accused of dragging their feet in apprehending the suspects, which heightened communal tensions in the area.

In response to the inaction, VHP Telangana organized protest programs on October 19 across the state, condemning the Congress government’s failure to prevent attacks on Hindu temples.

The protest, however, took a violent turn in Secunderabad when the local police, led by the DCP, resorted to lathi-charging the crowd. Video footage of the police action shows several protesters, including elderly devotees, with serious head injuries, while others were left in critical condition.

The VHP has condemned the police response as an attempt to suppress the legitimate grievances of the Hindu community and cover up their failure to address the temple vandalism.

On October 17, expressing rising concerns within the Hindu community, a state delegation from the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) Telangana, met Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand urging swift action following a series of temple attacks in Hyderabad.

The delegation stressed the need for an impartial investigation, and they also demanded measures against alleged illegal foreign infiltrators reportedly residing in the city.
