Agartala: In a significant operation, Tripura police thwarted a plot by Islamist radicals to incite an anti-Hindu riot in Kailashahar. The radicals, identified as Akash Miyan, Abdul Ahad, and Abdul Jalil, allegedly set fire to a mosque and spread false information accusing Hindus of the act. The plan aimed to create communal tensions in the region, but it was swiftly foiled by the police after a thorough investigation.
The incident unfolded when the trio reportedly started a fire in a mosque and began spreading rumours that Hindus were responsible. However, the police promptly launched an investigation, leading to the arrest of Akash Miyan. Abdul Ahad and Abdul Jalil managed to flee to Bangladesh via the Kulaura border in the Moulvibazar district. They were later apprehended by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and brought back to India to face charges.
Social Media Misinformation Campaign
The plot gained momentum on social media platforms, with Islamist Twitter users spreading misinformation about the mosque fire in Kailashahar’s Ward No. 5. Several accounts, believed to be operated from Bangladesh, attempted to fuel ethnic tensions by circulating false claims. In response, local authorities urged citizens to disregard rumours and maintain peace.
Border Security and Anti-Smuggling Efforts
In a parallel development, the Border Security Force (BSF) of Tripura successfully apprehended three Bangladeshi illegal immigrants attempting to cross the Indo-Bangladesh border. The BSF also intensified its crackdown on smuggling activities, seizing contraband worth ₹34,96,479 in separate operations. These actions reflect the BSF’s ongoing efforts to secure the border and prevent illegal activities.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha’s Statement
Amid rising concerns, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha reassured the public, stating that the law and order situation in the state remains under control. “The police are actively monitoring the situation and taking action as per the law. Providing security to the people is the government’s top priority,” Saha said in response to recent clashes between two communities in Kadamtala and Panisagar areas of North Tripura district.
The Chief Minister’s statement follows a series of communal tensions in the region, but he emphasised that the state’s security forces are handling the situation effectively.
