A disturbing case of false love trap has emerged from Uttar Pradesh’s Pilibhit district, where a Muslim man disguised his identity as a Hindu and entrapped a Hindu woman. After revealing his true identity, he reportedly threatened the woman to convert to Islam and have ‘nikah,’ threatening to leak intimate photos and videos if she refused.

The incident came to light on October 14, when the victim, identified as Lakshmi, filed a First Information Report (FIR number 357/2024) at the Sungadhi Police Station in Pilibhit.

In her statement, Lakshmi detailed how the accused, who initially presented himself under a false Hindu name, manipulated her into a relationship, sexually assaulted her, and later attempted to force her into converting to Islam.

According to the FIR, the accused, who initially introduced himself as “Rahul,” had met Lakshmi through a social media platform. They began communicating, and shortly after Holi, the two met in person when the accused travelled to Pilibhit. He lured Lakshmi to a local pizza café, where he assaulted her and recorded a video of the encounter. The accused then used the explicit video to blackmail her, threatening to release it publicly if she did not comply with his demands for further meetings.

The situation escalated during the Dussehra fair in Pilibhit, where the accused, later revealed to be Javed, allegedly attempted to forcibly take Lakshmi away. When she resisted, he physically assaulted her and revealed his true identity. According to Lakshmi’s account, Javed told her, “My real name is Javed, and now you will have to convert and marry me. If you refuse, I will release all the videos and photos, making sure no one else will want you.”

Fearing for her safety and dignity, Lakshmi raised an alarm. Local residents quickly gathered at the scene, causing Javed to flee. Lakshmi immediately informed her family about the incident, and they proceeded to file a formal police complaint.

The Pilibhit police acted on the complaint, arresting Javed and registering a case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections 64(2)(m), 115(2), and 351(3).

The Superintendent of Police (SP) of Pilibhit, who is overseeing the case, stated, “We have arrested the accused, Javed, who had been operating under a false identity to trap the victim. The charges are severe, and we are committed to ensuring that justice is delivered in this case.”

The case has sparked renewed concerns about the increasing number of incidents where Muslim men use fake Hindu names and identities to trap Hindu women for the purpose of conversion. These incidents are often referred to as ‘Love Jihad’ in media reports, a term used to describe cases where men purportedly manipulate women into relationships under false pretences, with the goal of religious conversion.

Organiser has compiled over 60 such cases across the country where Muslim men have employed deceptive tactics to entrap Hindu women. Readers may urge families to remain vigilant and educate young women about the dangers of such traps. It’s crucial to share this information with those who may be vulnerable to such manipulations.

The case in Pilibhit has further fueled ongoing debates surrounding the protection of women from forced conversions. The arrest of Javed marks a significant development, and the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities have assured that all necessary measures will be taken to bring justice to the victim.
