As the event draws near, the administration is planning a series of record-breaking feats aimed at showcasing the enormity of the festival, while also promoting an eco-friendly, “Green and Clean” Maha Kumbh to the world.

Another record-breaking attempt will focus on environmental sustainability and public sanitation. The administration plans to set a new record for the simultaneous cleaning of ghats, with 15,000 workers working together to clean the banks of the sacred Ganga River. This effort highlights the administration’s commitment to preserving the cleanliness of the river, as millions of pilgrims will visit these ghats for holy dips during the festival.
In a massive show of collective participation, the third record involves over 300,000 people coming together to clean the riverbanks. This initiative underlines the sense of unity and responsibility surrounding the Kumbh Mela, while reinforcing the administration’s dedication to maintaining the sanctity and cleanliness of the Ganga, a vital spiritual and environmental resource for the country.
The final Guinness attempt will see a massive handprint painting created by 10,000 participants, marking the world’s largest handprint painting. This artistic endeavor will represent a collective expression of devotion and unity, adding a cultural and symbolic dimension to the Maha Kumbh’s global presence.

In an exciting new initiative, an army of 30,000 volunteers will be mobilised to assist the Uttar Pradesh government in surpassing the current Guinness World Record for the largest display of earthen lamps (diyas). The existing record is held by the Ayodhya Deepotsav, where 25 lakh diyas (earthen lamps) were lit during Deepawali.
The Maha Kumbh 2025 aims to take this record to a new level by lighting 28 lakh diyas across 55 ghats of the Ram Ki Paidi area. This display of devotion and unity will light up the sacred riverbanks, symbolising the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and creating a visual spectacle for visitors.
According to official statements, the government has set the goal of lighting 28 lakh diyas simultaneously on the ghats of the Ganga. This massive undertaking will involve thousands of volunteers working across multiple sites. Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University’s Vice Chancellor Pratibha Goyal has been tasked with overseeing the event’s preparation, along with other senior officials.
The process of registering volunteers began on October 1st, and participation is open to students, volunteers, and various non-governmental organisations (NGOs). The deadline for participation is October 15, and volunteers are expected to receive their identification cards by October 20.
The diya lighting event is expected to be one of the highlights of the Maha Kumbh, drawing spectators from around the world and further enhancing Prayagraj’s reputation as a center of spiritual significance.
Beyond the ambitious record attempts, the Uttar Pradesh government is leaving no stone unturned in its preparation for the massive influx of pilgrims and tourists expected to attend the Maha Kumbh. Media in-charge Vijayendra Chaturvedi emphasized that plans are already in motion to ensure that the event runs smoothly.
Among the initiatives are the construction of new sanitation facilities, ensuring an uninterrupted supply of clean drinking water, and managing the logistics of food and shelter for millions of attendees. The local administration is also working to develop green areas and recreational spaces along the Yamuna Riverfront, which will serve as a key attraction during the event.
Additionally, the Uttar Pradesh government has allocated Rs 498 crore for building new infrastructure, including the development of road networks, bridges, and other facilities to manage the expected surge in population during the Maha Kumbh.
