PATNA: Security forces on Sunday, September 29, tasted major success after they successfully recovered scores of explosive devices, kept clandestinely in Aurangabad district of Bihar, said police.

The recovery was made following a joint team of the district police along with personnel of Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), an elite unit of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched a counter-insurgency drive on Sunday.

During the operation, the joint team recovered 3 pressure IEDs (Improvise Explosive Devices) along 47 cane IEDs kept in a hideout of Maoists near Gobardah village and Pachrukhiya Pahadi under Madanpur police station limits of Aurangabad, thwarting a major tragedy.

Pressure IEDs weighing 3-4 Kgs and cane IEDs weighing 1-2 Kgs were recovered and destroyed by the expert at the spot, informed police in an official statement released. According to the reports, the operation was launched following inputs of presence of Maoists in the hilly terrain after which a joint team was dispatched to the location which thwarted a major ploy of the extremists.

It must be noted here, that the state has witnessed a gradual reduction in Maoist related activities which has been successfully contained by the forces through aggressive campaigns, especially in the bordering region earlier considered a hotbed of insurgency.

Maoists zonal member surrendered in Jharkhand’s Giridih

Notably in a related development, a self-styled zonal committee member of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) had also surrendered before the officials’ in Jharkhand on Saturday, September 28.

Ram Dayal Mahto alias Bachha Da, a zonal member of the CPI (Maoist) surrendered before the officials of the police and other security forces at police headquarters, Giridih. The surrender took place under the ‘Nai Disha Nai Pahal’ campaign, being run by the police to motivate Maoist’s cadre to join the mainstream by shunning the path of violence.

Mahto was reported to be inspired by the surrender cum rehabilitation policy of the state government. He was carrying a bounty of Rs 10 lakh on his head as announced by the government. The officials of the police on the occasion also made an appeal to the extremists to join the mainstream and avail benefits of surrender cum rehabilitation policy.
