Following the Tirupati Laddu contamination issue, VCK functionary Dr. Sharmila, known for her controversial handling of sex-related topics on TV, has come under fire for mocking President Droupadi Murmu in poor taste.

In a post on her X handle, Dr. Sharmila shared a photo of President Droupadi Murmu meditating, with religious marks on her forehead and wearing a rudraksha mala. The caption mocked the President, with Sharmila stating, “I thought it was one of those soothsayer women from TV serials, but on a second look, I realized it was our President.”

In a tweet, Sharmila also referenced a famous movie dialogue, saying, “Kanna, do you want to eat Laddu?” She added, “They would say, ‘If you want to taste Laddu, you shouldn’t eat non-veg.’ This is something I can never forgive.”

Netizens expressed outrage over Sharmila’s comments, demanding legal action for her disrespectful remarks about the nation’s first citizen, President Draupadi Murmu.

You should be thrown in jail under SC/ST act for such a comment about our President @HMOIndia @PMOIndia @annamalai_k @nsitharamanoffc https://t.co/HTS3ZXiNMT

A netizen remarked, “This Dravidian casteist is insulting the appearance and attire of the President of India. She should be arrested under the PCR Act. This reflects the true nature of Dravidian racist thugs.”

She has long been in the habit of mocking Hindus and Hindu customs, despite being a Hindu herself and belonging to the Tamil Brahmin community. She is married to VCK MLA SS Balaji, who previously spread fake news on her X handle, addressing Prime Minister Modi disrespectfully.

Another netizen called on the government to charge her under the SC/ST Act.

Another netizen, Athiswamy, questioned, “Will @tnpoliceoffl take action against Sharmila, wife of Tiruporur MLA? She is tweeting derogatory remarks about the President of India, @rashtrapatibhvn. @thirumaofficial, is this how your party members speak against the President, who is an ST woman?”

Will @tnpoliceoffl acts against Sharmila W/O Tiruporur MLA ? She is tweeting in a derogatory manner about @rashtrapatibhvn of India.@thirumaofficial is this how ur party ppl speak against President of India who is a ST woman?@annamalai_k @HRajaBJP @nsitharaman @VanathiBJP https://t.co/4qCVGuvFvM

In a 2023 TV debate, Dr. Sharmila made several misleading claims while advocating for the DMK alliance. She incorrectly credited late DMK leader M. Karunanidhi with establishing India’s first women’s police station in 1973, a move actually initiated by AIADMK leader J. Jayalalithaa in 1992. She also falsely attributed the creation of a female commando force to the DMK, which was set up by Jayalalithaa in 2003. Additionally, Dr. Sharmila claimed that the DMK introduced 50% representation for women in local body elections, a measure actually implemented by Jayalalithaa’s AIADMK in 2016.

Regularly sharing false information on social media, she has been a vocal critic of the BJP and RSS. Aside from her role as a medical practitioner, Dr. Sharmila is also an actress and YouTuber. She gained popularity from her debut on the STAR Vijay show “Puthira Punithama?” alongside N. Mathrubootham, a program focused on sex education where he would read letters from the public.

Mathrubootham was a renowned psychiatrist, writer, and actor.

Dr. Sharmila, a trained Bharatanatyam dancer, began her career by hosting quiz shows on Jaya TV (formerly JJ TV) before moving on to conduct a talk show called Indha Vaaram Ivar, where she interviewed various celebrities. She was later selected by the esteemed psychiatrist Dr. N. Mathrubootham to read letters from the public during his sex education discussions on television.
