RAIPUR: In a shocking case of Love Jihad (A term used for denoting cases linked to luring Hindu women in relationship on pretext of a false religious identity) that has come to light in Chhattisgarh’s Raigarh district, a woman has approached the district collector, seeking security for her and her child after she was reportedly deceived by a man from Jammu who is now threatening her to change her religion three years after marrying her as per Hindu rituals.

According to the media reports, the woman who is a resident of Tripura came in contact with the accused through social media in the year 2020 and soon developed friendship with him. The accused had introduced himself to the victim as Gulshan Manhas, a resident of Jammu and a Hindu.

After months of interaction over the phone, the accused convinced the woman to come to Andhra Pradesh. Believing the accused, the victim woman then reached Vadrapalam of Andhra Pradesh where the duo got married as per the Hindu rituals. Upon asking about the family members the accused assured the victim that he is a good man and he has not deceived her.

The woman gave birth to a child in the year 2022 in Chennai and named the baby boy, Gurdeep. A couple of months after the birth of Gurdeep, the accused along with the victim woman traveled to Kashmir at the former’s home. It was only there the victim got to know about the real identity of Gulshan as Riyaz Ahmad.

After the accused veil fallen off, he along with the family members started pressurizing the woman to change her religion to which the woman refused firmly, resulting in torture at the hands of Riyaj. Upon knowing that she was cheated by the accused, the victim woman then somehow managed to get out from the confinement of Riyaj and reached Delhi with great difficulty.

However, during her daring escape, the victim woman was continuously threatened by the accused over the phone and the latter eventually traced the woman in Delhi from her mobile location. The woman then made another attempt to escape and somehow managed to reach Bhikampura village under Siriya police station limits of Raigarh and approached the district magistrate with a complaint letter subsequently.

The victim has now filed a formal complaint against the accused Gulshan alias Riyaj Ahmad with Raigarh police and the case is being investigated by the officials. “The woman has filed a complaint against her husband and a probe has been launched into the matter,” informed an official of the police familiar with the development.

It is to be noted, that cases pertaining to marrying Hindu woman by concealing original identity have been keep coming to the fore on regular basis, indicating a larger ploy behind, aimed at conversion. In most of such cases the victim women are persuaded to change her religion, sometime leading to their elimination following refusal.
