Guwahati: Attacks and crimes perpetrated in Bangladesh against the Hindu minority group appear to be ongoing. At all following the overthrow of the Sheikh Hasina government, Hindu residents of Bangladesh have found themselves living in a torture chamber under Jamat rule. Islamist terrorists have targeted countless Hindu people, families, businesses, and religious organisations.
Radicals are now targeting Bangladesh’s Durga Puja festivities. In Bangladesh, radicals are sending extortion notes to every Durga Puja committee. Any Puja committee that wishes to perform Durga Puja this year has to pay the radical groups Rs 5 lakhs. Such extortion notes provided to the Puja committees by radicals are accessible to the “Organiser.” A member of the puja committee who wishes to remain anonymous stated that a few lads who were born into motorcycles came and gave the extortion letter to the puja committee named “Beenapaani.” Such letters have been received by several puja committees. The letter, which is written in Bengali, threatens the puja committees with severe repercussions if they hold puja ceremonies without giving the Jamat Rs. 5 lakhs.
The funds must be paid in a certain location in the Dhaka neighbourhood of Kalibazar within the following week. The extortion threat was also revealed on the well-known Hindu community Facebook page, “Agniveer” in Bangladesh. The letter goes on to say that the members will suffer severe repercussions should the puja committee notify the administration about the ransom threat. It also states that if the puja committees don’t pay the extortion money, they won’t be able to receive security from the government, the police, or even the Army.
In addition, the radicals threaten to kill the puja committee members’ families if they don’t pay the extortion money or notify the government of the demand. It should be noted that the minority Hindu community in Bangladesh is finding it more difficult to celebrate puja. Radicals target Hindu temples and Durga Puja pandals annually during the puja holiday. Numerous cases of attacks on Hindu communities and puja celebrations occurred throughout the nation even during Sheikh Hasina’s administration.
However, the recent power struggle in the neighbouring country and the emergence of radical Islamists like Jamat have made matters worse for the Hindu population. The Hindu community is extremely afraid, especially in front of the holiday season, according to a senior journalist who asked not to be named out of concern for their safety.
