Imphal: Manipur continues to reel under escalating violence as a recent wave of drone and bomb attacks has rocked the Bishnupur district. In a devastating development, militants deployed a sophisticated long-range bomb in Moirang on September 6, resulting in the death of one civilian and injuring five others. This attack follows an earlier incident where drones were reportedly used to launch rockets in the district, raising serious security concerns.

Fatal Bomb Attack in Moirang

In the latest attack, a bomb was detonated in the locality of Moirang, killing 70-year-old RK Rabei of Moirang Pheewangbam Leikai. Rabei was preparing for an Asti ceremony at the residence of former Chief Minister Koireng on Sendra Road when he was fatally struck by bomb splinters. He died at the scene, making him the first casualty in this series of attacks.

Five others were injured in the bombing:

  • Salam Nanao (40) of Sendra Road
  • Galena Mairembam (13) of Sendra Road
  • Rajeev @ Bobo (58) of Sendra Road
  • Kongjengbam Jogindro (52) of Moirang Okshongbung
  • Ngangom Ibobi (65) of Moirang Okshongbung

The injured individuals were quickly rushed to nearby medical facilities for treatment. State security forces have reached the site and launched an investigation into the incident, although no militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Security Forces on High Alert

Manipur’s security forces have been on high alert in light of the escalating situation, conducting combing operations in affected areas in an effort to locate and neutralise the militants responsible for these attacks. With the use of drones and sophisticated weaponry now a central concern, the authorities are reassessing their strategies to counter these new threats.

This latest wave of violence has led to growing demands for peace and stability in the region, with local leaders and citizens urging authorities to intensify their efforts to restore order.
