During the investigation into the gruesome rape and murder of a postgraduate doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, reports have uncovered that the bike used by the accused, Sanjoy Roy, was registered in the name of Kolkata’s Commissioner of Police.

Sanjoy Roy, who served as a civic volunteer with Kolkata Police, used this very bike on the day of the horrific crime. It has come to light that Roy used the bike to travel through various red-light districts in north Kolkata, raising serious questions about the oversight and accountability within Kolkata Police.

Disturbingly, Roy reportedly rode the bike for a distance of 15 kilometres while intoxicated, further highlighting potential lapses in the supervision of civic volunteers by the police.

As per a report by India Today, the bike was registered in 2014. As part of their ongoing investigation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has seized the vehicle. The registration of the bike under such a high-ranking official has raised concerns about how Roy, a civic volunteer, had access to a vehicle registered in the Police Commissioner’s name.

Sources within the CBI have indicated that Roy’s association with Kolkata Police as a civic volunteer may have contributed to a sense of “invincibility,” possibly emboldening him to commit the heinous crime. The CBI is now expanding its investigation to explore the possibility of a larger nexus at play, looking into how Roy may have been granted privileges typically reserved for higher-ranking officials.

As the investigation unfolds, the focus is increasingly on how such a grave oversight could have occurred, and what measures will be implemented to prevent similar lapses in the future.

This shocking connection between the accused and the police has sent ripples through the local community, raising questions about the integrity and conduct of those in charge of upholding the law. The case continues to draw intense scrutiny, with the public and authorities alike demanding answers and accountability in what has become one of the most disturbing crimes in recent memory.

The crime occurred on the premises of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, one of Kolkata’s prominent medical institutions. The victim, a postgraduate student pursuing her medical education, was found raped and murdered in her hostel room. The discovery of her body sent shockwaves through the medical community and the general public, leading to widespread outrage and demands for swift justice.

Sanjoy Roy, a civic volunteer associated with Kolkata Police, emerged as the prime suspect in the case. Roy, who had access to the medical college premises, is accused of committing the heinous crime.

The CBI took over the investigation due to the severity of the crime and the public outcry for an impartial probe.

The case attracted significant media attention and public outrage. Protests and demonstrations were held by various groups, including medical students and women’s rights organisations, demanding justice for the victim and accountability from the state government.
