In a significant development reported from Maoist infested Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh, a total of 14 lower-rung cadres of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist) have surrendered before the authorities on Monday, July 29.
Most of the surrendered cadres were reported to be part of the Gangloor and Bhairamgarh Area Committees of the outlaws being operational in the Bijapur district and adjoining areas.
The surrender includes of Nagi Podiyam, president of Kisan Adivasi Mazdoor Sangh (KAMS), a front organization of Maoist under Madudbaka Revolutionary Peoples Committee (RPC), Usur. She was carrying a bounty of Rs 1 lakh on her head.
Those who have surrendered were reported to be impressed by the State government surrender and rehabilitation policy and were finding it difficult to operate under growing dominance of security forces in the hinterlands. All of them have been provided with financial assistance of Rs 25000 each.
Notably with the recent surrender of these lower-rung cadres the tally of those who have parted ways with the Maoist outfit and join the mainstream in the last six and a half months has mounted to 137.
Female Maoist carrying a reward of 13 lakhs surrendered before police in Kawardha
It is worth mentioning here that the surrender of these 14 cadres’ follows another similar development from Kabirdham (Kawardha) district where a female Maoist identified as Ranjita alias Hidima Kowasi turned herself before the police and surrender on July 27.
Ranjita was reportedly associated with the Maoist outfit since 2016 and was active as an Area Committee Member (ACM) under the Malajkhand Area Committee of the outlaws.
She has been named in a total of 22 cases linked to various unlawful activities in Chhattisgarh and neighboring Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh against which a reward of Rs 8 lakh was already announced on her by the respective State governments.

Meanwhile in another related development, a senior Maoist female cadre indulged in providing supply to the Gadchiroli division of the banned CPI Maoist has also surrender before officials of police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on the eve of the ongoing ‘Martyrdom week’ being celebrated by the outlaws.
Rina Borra Narote alias Lalita, the commander of Maoist’s tailor team, appeared before the police and surrendered on Sunday, July 28. Lalita was carrying a reward of Rs 8 lakh as announced by the state government.

It must be noted that of late, the Gadchiroli police along with the security forces have been running a fierce campaign against the outlaws leading to neutralization and surrender of scores of Maoists in the erstwhile stronghold of the ultras.
In a significant operation launched recently, separate teams of C-60 commandos, a specialized counter-insurgency unit of the Maharashtra police had neutralized as many as 12 cadres of the banned outfit following a fierce encounter in Wandoli village adjoining Chhattisgarh border on July 17.
