A surprising and controversial incident unfolded in the Sahjanwan tehsil of Gorakhpur district, where a group of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) workers expressed their outrage over a male tailor measuring the dresses of minor girl students. The incident, which has sparked a significant uproar, highlights concerns over the comfort and appropriateness of such practices in educational institutions.

The incident came to light, when a male tailor, identified as Ejaz Ahmed, was seen taking measurements of girl students aged 14 to 16 who are studying in Class 6. The uncomfortable situation prompted the ABVP workers, led by Ranjit Singh, to intervene and demand that a female tailor be called instead. The sight of the young girls in an uneasy state caused immediate concern among the ABVP members.

Upon confrontation, Ejaz Ahmed explained that he was an employee called by a contractor named Sajjad to measure the dresses as part of a government initiative to provide free uniforms to the students. The school management, in an attempt to defuse the situation, promptly appointed a female teacher to take over the measurements.

Government schools in Sahjanwan tehsil, which cater to students from classes six to twelve, currently have 161 enrolled girl students. As the new academic session began, the distribution of free uniforms to girl students commenced, following a tender issued by the education department. However, the contractor’s decision to employ a male tailor for this task led to widespread discomfort and controversy.

ABVP workers, including Abhishek Tripathi, Arun Singh Vicky, and Aditya Kumar, voiced their objections to the school’s Vice Principal due to the Principal’s absence. They argued that a female tailor should have been called to handle such a sensitive task involving young girls. The Vice Principal, acknowledging the mistake, assured immediate corrective action.

Following their school visit, the ABVP workers took their concerns to the Sahjanwan Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Deepak Gupta. They met with the SDM, to express their objections and demand action against the responsible parties. In response, SDM Gupta called the Principal and instructed him to issue a clarification and take appropriate measures against those involved.

“The ABVP has raised a valid concern regarding the measurement of girl students’ dresses by a male tailor,” stated SDM Gupta. “The Principal has been directed to clarify the situation and take necessary action against the personnel responsible for this oversight.”

The incident underscores the importance of maintaining sensitivity and appropriateness in school activities, especially when they involve young students. The swift response from both the ABVP and the school authorities highlights a collective effort to ensure the comfort and dignity of girl students in educational institutions.
