Six Muslim men have been arrested by Uttar Pradesh Police in Bahraich district for molesting three Dalit girls and causing injuries to several others with sharp weapons.
Three Dalit teenagers visited Bodhwa market in Bahraich district on the evening of July 21. They were molested by meat sellers Aslam and Salman.
Relatives of the girls arrived at the market shortly thereafter and protested against the molestation. In a heated confrontation, the meat sellers reportedly reacted aggressively, injuring five people, including two teenage girls, with sharp weapons.
Vijay Singh, Pooran, Shravan, Guddi, and Chandni, who sustained injuries, were taken to CHC Nanpara for medical treatment.
Following the viral video of the incident, the police responded swiftly and initiated action, with Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Dr Pavitra Mohan Tripathi intervening.
The accused have been identified as Salman Qureshi, Aslam Qureshi, Ibrahim, Hallem Qureshi, Gulfan, and Raheesh. They all have been charged under the SC/ST Act. They have also been charged with molestation, attempted murder, and assault. Police are actively searching for additional suspects who are currently absconding.
