Telangana police have arrested Mohammed Hussain (alias Sudhakar alias Ramakanth), a former central committee member of the banned Maoist Party in Ramakrishnapur, Mancherial district, according to an announcement made by ACP Ravi Kumar on Monday, July 9.

Ramagundam CP M Srinivas informed that for the past two months, Ramakanth has been working to spread Maoist ideology among the people and to rebuild SIKASA (Singareni Karmika Samakhya) in the Singareni coal belt area in Telangana. Under the orders of Ramagundam CP M Srinivas, DCP Eggadi Bhaskar formed special teams. It was discovered that Maoist sympathizers were distributing pamphlets in the Mandamarri and Ramakrishnapur areas.

They informed that on Monday, Bellampalli ACP Ravi Kumar, Mandamarri CI Shashidhar Reddy, and SI G Rajasekhar were patrolling when they noticed a man with a bag on RK 1 Gani Road attempting to flee. They caught him, and upon searching, they found posters and pamphlets with Maoist content. After taking him into custody and interrogating him, they identified him as Mohammed Hussain from Jammikunta.

The police stated that Maoist Central Committee members Chandranna and Bandi Prakash alias Prabath had instructed Hussain to revive the SIKASA (Singareni Karmika Samakhya) organization in the coal belt area and had also provided funding for this purpose. Following their directives, Hussain organized a meeting at the residence of Gurajala Ravinder in Kyathanahalli in 2020, where Central Committee members Varanasi Subramanyam and Varanasi Vijayalaxmi, among others, participated. As part of the resolutions adopted at this meeting, Hussain was working to revitalize SIKASA in the coal belt region.

The ACP also revealed that cases under Sections 120, 120(b) read with 34 IPC, and Sections 10, 13, 18, and 18(b) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act were pending against Hussain at the Ramakrishnapur police station.

Mohammed Hussain worked as a general laborer at KK-2 mine from 1978 to 1981 before resigning and joining the Maoist party. He rose to become a member of the North Telangana Committee and served as a founding member and CVO of the Singareni Workers’ Union, a Maoist-affiliated organization. He was arrested in Jharkhand in 2009 and spent time in jail until 2013.

However, Leaders of human rights and people’s organizations are alleging that police arrested Mohammed Hussain while he was at home.

The BRS took an anti-Maoist stance while in power, but after losing their positions, they are now aligning with the Maoists.

Former Minister and BRS leader Harish Rao condemned Hussain’s arrest and responded on the X platform stating that if anything happens to the life of Mohammed Hussain alias Ramakanth, who has been living among the people for the past ten years, the government should take responsibility.
