Guwahati: Another heinous rape incident of a 15-year-old minor girl in Dhekiajuli area in Assam jolts the state. This is the second incident of minor rape by Islamists in the state in two days. On June 22, five Muslim youth abducted and gang-raped a minor girl in Majbar area in the Udalguri district. On June 24 in nearby Sonitpur district a class 10 girl was abducted and raped by one Shahidul Islam.

The incident took place on June 24, near Arun Tea Estate in Dhekiajuli area at around 6:30 pm. As per report the minor girl belonging to the tea tribe community was returning home from her tution class. Accused Shahidul and four of his friends stopped the minor girl and the culprit dragged her to the nearby tea garden. He raped her and fled the spot with his friends.

The victim’s family lodged a FIR in Dhekiajuli police station on 25th June and as per the complaint of the parents of the minor girl, police registered a case and the prime accused Shahidul was arrested last night. Police conducted a medical test of the victim and her condition is said to be stable. She has been given counselling by the authorities.

The All Tea Tribe Students Association (ATSSA) staged a huge protest on 26th June in front of Dhekiajuli police station demanding severe punishment to the culprit and arrest of all accused involved in this heinous crime. A case has been registered under POCSO act against the accused and police have initiated proper investigation of the crime.

The Assam Police, on June 25 arrested five Islamist criminals involved in connection with the rape of a 16 Year-old girl while she was returning home from tuition in Majbat, Udalguri district on June 22.

However, when trying to flee police custody, the main accused was hurt by gunfire from the police. He was later admitted to hospital by the police. In addition, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has instructed the DGP of the Assam Police to look into the case under the direction of a top police officer. He wrote in X  “Five miscreants have been arrested in relation to Majbat PS Case No. 30/24, which concerns the rape of a juvenile girl by many boys on June 22.
