Guwahati: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has made significant progress in dismantling a transnational human trafficking racket operating across the Indo-Bangladesh border. On June 24, the NIA filed a supplementary chargesheet against eight individuals involved in the illegal operation. The suspects include five from Tripura and one from Assam, highlighting the widespread nature of the human trafficking network.

Key Suspects and Their Roles

Among the accused are Jalil Miah, Hanan Miah, Kajal Sarkar (absconding), Adhir Das, and Anwar Hussain from Tripura. Kamal Das brother of Amol Chandra Das from Silchar, Assam, who is currently at large. Liton Chakraborty from West Bengal. Rabiyl Hasan, also known as Rabiul Hassan, a Bangladeshi national are the prime accuse of the human trafficking network as mentioned by NIA.

Investigation Insights

The NIA’s detailed investigation revealed that Liton Chakraborty** was involved in creating fake Indian identification documents for Bangladeshi nationals using forged supporting documents. Simultaneously Rabiyl Hasan** maintained connections with arrested suspects across multiple states, including Assam, West Bengal, Tripura, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka. These chargesheeted individuals sends the Rohingyas to different parts of India for engagement in various jobs using forged documents like fake Indian Aadhar card, voter ID, PAN card, Ration cards etc, NIA sources said.

Network and Operations

The ongoing investigation, registered under RC-01/2023/NIA-GUW, has exposed a vast network of human trafficking operatives across Assam, Tripura, West Bengal, and Bangladesh. The NIA is actively pursuing absconding suspects and other individuals connected to the case.

According to the agency, trafficked individuals faced severe exploitation, including forced labour, low wages, and constant threats of police arrest. The case was initially registered by the Assam Special Task Force in September 2023 and was subsequently handed over to the NIA in October of the same year.

The NIA’s efforts to unravel this complex trafficking network underscore the severity of human trafficking issues in the region. The agency’s relentless pursuit of justice for the victims and the apprehension of all involved parties continues to be a top priority.
