Fourteen people from two families who had become Christians after being deceived by Christian missionaries in the border area of the Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj districts of Odisha have returned to their ancestors’ roots at a homecoming ceremony on June 21.
Vishva Hindu Parishad organised a special programme in Jharjhari village of Mahuldiha police station area of Mayurbhanj district with the cooperation of the villagers, in which these people returned to their Swadharma. The people of the village participated enthusiastically in this ghar wapsi programme, and the people who made ghar Wapsi expressed great happiness at returning to their ‘ancestors’ roots.
Akshay Sahu, Prant Dharma Prasar Saha Pramukh, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Odisha (East), while talking to Organiser said that some tribal people of Jharjhari village in Bhaliadal Panchayat of Mahuldiha police station area of Mayurbhanj district became Christians a few years ago after falling prey to the deception of Christian missionaries. But later, they realised their mistake. These people expressed their desire to return to their roots and contacted Vishva Hindu Parishad. Not only this, the village head also contacted Vishva Hindu Parishad and requested them to help in their ghar wapsi. Sahu said that after this, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad completed the necessary legal process for their ghar wapsi. After this, a programme was organised for this. The entire village participated in this programme.

The head of a family who made ghar wapsi, told the story about how they were deceived by Christian missionaries.
“A few years ago, a person in my family had a fever. The fever was not lowering. In such a situation, a Christian priest came to us and said that if you people take refuge in Jesus, your health will be cured. The Christian priest gave us a white powder, saying that it was the bibhuti of Jesus. Mixing it with water and taking it will cure your health. After taking it, the sick person got cured. After this, he converted us. Later, we came to know that what he gave by calling it the bibhuti of Jesus was actually paracetamol. Then we realised that the Christian missionaries cheated us and took us away from the original Dharma of our ancestors. We were very sad about being cut off from our roots. Due to this, we talked to the village head and Vishva Hindu Parishad and expressed our desire to return to our original roots. It is a matter of great happiness that they helped us return to our ‘ancestors’ roots.” Said, head of a family who made Ghar wapsi while talking to the Organiser.
VHP’s Prant Dharma Prasar Saha Pramukh Akshay Sahu said that a special programme was organised for ghar wapsi. On this occasion, along with Puja Archana Havan,. Panchamrit was consumed. The Gita and other religious books were provided to the people who made Ghar wapsi. The villagers actively participated in this entire programme.
Shri Sahu said that Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj are tribal-dominated districts. Christian missionaries are very active in this area. There is a law in the state to prevent conversions through allurement, fraud, and other illegal means. But this law is not being implemented properly by the administration, so the incidents of conversion are increasing. He said that we demand from the state government that it strictly implement this law and take strict action against the missionaries who convert people illegally.
Apart from Sahu, VHP District President Chittaranjan Das, Bajrang Dal Anandpur Co-convenor Divya Jyoti Muduli, VHP District Milan Pramukh Harihar Sethi, and senior Karyakarta Triptiranjan Sahu were also present in this ghar wapsi programme.
