Tension simmers in Gopinathpur of Pakud district of Jharkhand, adjoining West Bengal border after clashes erupt between two communities over sacrificing cattle on the occasion of Bakrid on June 17.

Members of the two communities collided after a resident of the village allegedly slaughtered a cow progeny on a piece of land belonging to the member of other community, prompting sharp reactions from the other group.

However, the said resident in no time called people residing on the other side of the inter-state border who soon arrived in large numbers leading to clashes between the two groups.

According to the reports, floating in the media, those arrived from the other side of the border also hurled bombs and pelted stones on the resident of Gopinathpur village.

Upon receiving information about the skirmish a police team immediately took control of the situation by arriving on the spot, further the West Bengal police on the other hand by swinging into action also reached the spot and tried normalizing the agitated villagers.

As of now heavy deployment of security personnel are guarding the village in view of preventing any reoccurrence of the incident and the situation is monitored closely by the officials.

BJP slam law and order situation of the state

Meanwhile the clashes reported from Pakud also grabbed the attention of Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP’s) state president, Babu Lal Marandi, who while slamming the state government over the state of law and order demanded swift action into the case.

Taking to X, the former Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Marandi said that “a sacrifice of cow has been made publicly, information pertaining to hurling of bombs and stone pelting by accused when confronted over the incident has also come to the fore. Pakud, who has now become a shelter for the Bangladeshi infiltrators has nothing like law and order, the JMM-Congress government while surrendering in rapacity of vote bank has destroyed the lives of the bonafide residents of Pakud district, he added”.

Highlighting another incident from the Jharkhand’s capital Ranchi, Marandi in a separate post further said that “What is happening in Jharkhand, cow progeny has been sacrificed openly, hurting the sentiments of Sanatani community. The Muslim appeasement being done by JMM-Congress is a very dangerous sign. An attempt is being made to create a horrific situation like Bengal by giving political shelter to the infiltrators”.

It is noteworthy that a similar incident of clashes between two communities on Monday has also come to the fore from Balasore of Odisha where prohibitory orders under section 144 of the Indian Penal Code has been issued in view of maintaining the law and order which deteriorated over alleged sacrifice of cow.
