Jiribam, Manipur: In a concerning turn of events, an advance security team tasked with ensuring the safety of Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh’s upcoming visit to Jiribam was ambushed by suspected armed militants near T Laijang, close to Kotlen on NH 37 Jiribam road, at around 10:30 am on 10th June.

According to reports, one security personnel sustained injuries during the ambush. The incident has triggered an immediate and robust response, with a joint operation involving police commandos and Assam Rifles currently underway to locate the perpetrators and secure the area.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh, who is scheduled to visit Jiribam tomorrow, dispatched the advance team earlier today to assess the safety and security situation in the region. Unfortunately, their journey was violently interrupted by the ambush near Kotlen along National Highway 37.

The attack has raised significant concerns about the security challenges in the region and the safety measures in place for high-profile visits. Authorities are on high alert, ensuring that all necessary precautions are taken to prevent further incidents and maintain order.

Security Measures and Immediate Response
The injured security personnel have been provided with immediate medical attention, and their condition is being closely monitored. The security forces’ swift action highlights the preparedness and resilience of the team in the face of unexpected threats.

The ongoing joint operation by police commandos and Assam Rifles aims not only to apprehend those responsible for the ambush but also to reinforce the security apparatus in the region. This coordinated effort underscores the commitment of the security forces to protect public officials and maintain peace.

Despite the ambush, Chief Minister N Biren Singh’s visit to Jiribam remains on schedule. The Chief Minister’s office has expressed confidence in the security arrangements and assured the public that all measures are being taken to ensure his safety.

The visit is a crucial part of the Chief Minister’s agenda to provide security and engage with the affected Meitei community in Jiribam. The advance team’s mission was to evaluate and enhance security protocols, ensuring a safe environment for the Chief Minister’s interactions with the residents.

CM Singh strongly condemned the attack and called it a barbaric act.

This ambush highlights the ongoing security challenges in certain regions and the persistent threat posed by militant groups. The government’s response, through immediate action and continued vigilance, reflects a strong stance against such threats.

Kuki militants attacked several Meitei villages in Jiribam district from 5th June onwards and even attacked several police stations in the district. Nearly 400 Meitei villagers have been evacuated by security forces as many Hindu Meitei villages were set ablaze by Kuki militants.
