The National Testing Agency (NTA) has established an expert committee to investigate the provision of grace marks in the NEET UG 2024 results. This decision comes amid allegations and controversies surrounding the exam. At a press conference held today, NTA Director General Subodh Kumar Singh assured that the integrity of the examination had not been compromised, despite irregularities affecting approximately 1,600 candidates.
“If needed, results will be revised for 1,600 candidates based on the committee’s recommendations,” Singh announced.

Meanwhile, ABVP National General Secretary Yagywalkya addressed a press conference in Surat, Gujarat demanding a CBI inquiry into the irregularities in the NEET-UG exam results.

The NEET UG 2024 exam, which took place on May 5, was conducted for over 24 lakh candidates at 4,750 centers in 571 cities. Of these, only 1,600 students from six exam centers experienced issues.”Initially, 17 students were in the topper list. Due to a Physics answer challenge, 44 candidates scored between 715 to 720, increasing the number of toppers to 61,” Singh explained.
The problems involved incorrect distribution of question papers and damaged OMR sheets, leading to candidates losing time during the exam. These candidates subsequently approached the High Courts demanding a retest or compensation for lost time. The courts were informed of the committee’s formation, resulting in the dismissal of the petitions. The committee then recommended compensatory marks for the affected students.
The four-member committee, led by a former chairperson of the UPSC, will revisit Haryana’s Bahadurgarh center, one of the six centers impacted. The officials emphasized that the compensatory marks provided are in accordance with the Supreme Court order dated June 13, 2018.
NEET 2024 Irregularities: Background
Claims of a NEET UG paper leak emerged before the exam was conducted by the NTA. Despite these claims, the NTA proceeded with the medical entrance exam as scheduled on May 5. The NEET results 2024 were announced 10 days ahead of the expected date.
Additionally, the NTA organized a re-exam for 120 candidates at Girls Higher Secondary Model School in Mantown, Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, due to the distribution of incorrect question papers.
According to the NEET UG results 2024, an unprecedented 67 students achieved a perfect score of 720/720, while 44 candidates scored between 715 and 720. “At a single examination center in Haryana, 8 students scored above 718 marks, with 6 achieving 720/720, indicating blatant manipulation of results,” the All India Students Union (AISU) claimed.
The Bihar police arrested 13 individuals in connection with a separate paper leak. The Economic Offences Unit (EOU), which was investigating based on a tip-off related to the BPSC TRE paper leak, identified Sanjiv Singh as the mastermind. However, the NTA has not released an official statement regarding this incident. On May 6, the NTA issued a statement dismissing the paper leak allegations.
The NTA’s formation of an expert committee aims to address the concerns and ensure that the examination process remains fair and transparent for all candidates. The committee’s findings and recommendations will determine the final steps to resolve the issues faced by the affected students.
