The recent two incidents involving teenage boys and girls send shivers among the people of the state, fearing the way the much touted Dravidian Model government is moving. In one incident, three people, including 2 minors, were arrested for sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl repeatedly. In another incident, the minor brother, who questioned about misbehaving with his sister, was murdered by a minor.
Thiruverkadu resident an 11-year-old girl complained of a severe stomach ache to her aunt. The girl was studying in the sixth grade. When the doctors found that she had been subjected to aggravated sexual assault for a long , they informed the hospital management, who in turn passed it on to the Villivakkam all women police station. The police questioned her to get the details. In wake of the information given by her, police arrested a 51 year old man, two boys. The police recorded the girl’s statement and sent her for medical examination and psychological counselling.
According to reports, the girl’s parents are daily wage earners, owing to which the girl could not disclose it immediately to them. The child told her aunt that one of the cousins raped her. The woman told the mother of the child’s harrowing assault. Girls’s parents, who are alcoholics, did not pay much heed to the plaight of the daughter. The girl complained of intolerable pain in her private parts due to forced penetration for the last six months, but no one took it seriously.

The girl’s cousins are both aged 16 and are her neighbours. On seeing the girl’s cousin visit her house frequently, the other boy took advantage of her, threatening to disclose the issue. A tailor identified as Kumar in the same locality had also sexually assaulted her.
Another incident that took place in Karaikkal is most shocking. The victim, a Class 8 student, who had been missing since the afternoon of May 27 and was found dead with multiple stab injuries at the house adjacent to his home by the victim’s family members. The Neravy police later arrested the 17-year-old juvenile near Mayiladuthurai on May 28.
Police suspected that it was well planned murder, as the accused had bought knife and a pair of gloves from an online portal to commit the crime and conceal the evidence.
According to reports, the juvenile, who was also booked under Pocso Act for sexual assault of the victim’s 10-year-old sister, had been quarrelling with the boy for more than a week over the sexual assault incident. The accused had stabbed him multiple times to death.
Police said, “The juvenile, who is a Muslim boy, had misbehaved with the victim’s sister. The boy objected to this and went to the house of the accused and confronted him. The accused, a Class 9 school dropout, was living with his mother after his father got separated. The suspect had ordered the knife and a pair of gloves through an online portal. Due to the heinous nature of the crime, we have decided to request the juvenile be tried as an adult in the case”.
The victim’s sister told media that they had lost 13-year-old who prevented the person who tried to misbehave with his sister. We want the 17-year-old accused to be punished sternly.”

A case was registered at Neravy police station under IPC Section 302 (murder) on the May 27 and after the arrest and interrogation of the accused, the police also booked him under Section 10 (aggravated sexual assault) of the Pocso Act.
The victim’s father was inconsolable at the entrance of the hospital. Karaikkal SSP Manish told media, “While the juvenile is currently in an observation home in Puducherry, the board may conduct a preliminary assessment of his mental and physical capacity to commit offences under Section 15 of the Juvenile Justice Act”. The Police have decided to make a request to try the juvenile as an adult in the case.
According to Section 19 of the JJ Act, the case may be transferred to a children’s court after the receipt of preliminary assessment from the JJ board. The children’s court shall ensure that the child in conflict with law is sent to a place of safety till he attains the age of 21; thereafter, he may be transferred to a jail.
These are not isolated events involving teenagers involved in sexual assaults and murder crimes. Last week, one Nadiya was arrested for running a sexual racket supplying students – are her daughter’s schoolmates—to VIPs for 40,000 and above but paying Rs 1000 to victims. She exploited their poverty and innoncense and blackmailed them with videos if they refused to go with the client.
It came to light only after NIA raided her house, found videos and photos of girls and informed the local police to take the lead and act.
