A disturbing case of harassment has emerged in Mumbai, where a Hindu girl has reported relentless pressure from a man named Mohd Hamid for marriage despite her repeated refusals. The victim, who supports her family as the sole breadwinner, alleges that Hamid has been stalking her and issuing threats, leaving her in a state of fear and distress.

Frustrated by the continuous harassment, the girl took the courageous step of filing a case against Hamid. However, her family claims that the local police have failed to take any action against the accused, leaving them vulnerable to further threats and intimidation.

In response to the escalating situation, local Hindus have issued a four-day request to the police, demanding swift action against Hamid. If no action is taken within the stipulated timeframe, they have threatened to call for a strike in the region, underscoring the seriousness of the matter.

Acknowledging the gravity of the situation, activist and speaker Shefali Vaidya, questioned inaction by the Maharashtra Directorate General of Information and Public Relations (DGIPR) in this case. She has urged decisive action against the accused.

Is this true? If yes, Why are @MahaDGIPR not taking action against Mohd Hamid? Cc @Dev_Fadnavis @NidhiKamdarMH @SunainaHoley https://t.co/NWyaiGtTKT

Nidhi Kamdar, the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has taken notice of the case. Kamdar has confirmed that an offence has been registered under sections 354d (stalking) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), with further actions expected to be initiated.

Taking cognizance of the case she wrote on X, “Offence is already registered under sections 354d and 506. Further expected actions too in process.”

Further expected actions too in process. @ShefVaidya Namaskar !

The DG handle is @DGPMaharashtra.
Also,
“Why are … not taking action?”, sounds little… https://t.co/2vclEdTEZ8

Beyond the individual case, the incident has sparked broader conversations about the phenomenon of Love Jihad, which refers to the alleged practice of Muslim men targeting Hindu women for conversion to Islam through deceptive means, including relationships and marriage. The girl’s courageous stand against her stalker has brought attention to this pressing issue, prompting calls for greater awareness and action to combat such predatory behaviour.
