Two important Hindu programmes took place in  Kerala on May 25. They were the Hindu Netrutva Sammelan at Vaikkom and the Kerala Kshetra Samrakshana Samiti state conference in Thrissur. They were inaugurated by Amrithanandamayi Mat General Secretary Swamy Poornamruthananda Puri and Dr Mohanan Kunnummel (Vice Chancellor of Kerala University of Health Sciences & Vice Chancellor of Kerala University), respectively.

Swamy Poornamruthananda Puri said in Vaikkom, Kottayam district, that caste is to be determined not by one’s birth but his (or her) character.  Swami was inaugurating the Hindu Netrutva Sammelan (Hindu Leadership Conclave). All creations of God are great. God is present in all His creations in their entirety. One is not inferior to another. All are of equal importance and significance. Hindus do not know the greatness of Hindutva. We should not denounce our own dharma based on others’ comments. Ramayana contains the secrets of the joy and success of our life.

Swami said in his address that there should be facilities in our temples to teach the above-mentioned spiritual matters in a simple manner. Hindu community leaders should join hands to impart these sorts of noble lessons. When individuals change, great and surprising changes will take place in the society.

Hindu Aikyavedi state president, K.P. Sasikala Teacher, chaired the inaugural ceremony. Famous playback singer Vaikkom Vijayalakshmi rendered the prayer. Padmashree M.K. Kunjol Master, Swami Sivananda Sharma, Premananda Swamy, Hindu Aikyavedi Working President Valsan Thillankerry, and spokespersons E.S. Biju and R.V. Babu were present during the inaugural ceremony.

N. Gangadharan, grandson of T.K. Madhavan, the leader of Vaikkom Satyagraha, rendered the felicitation message. Padmashree M.K. Kunjol Master hoisted the flag.

Vice Chancellor Dr. Mohanan Kunnummel inaugurated the Kerala Kshetra Samrakshana Samiti state conference. Dr. Kunnummel said that temples are the heads of Hindu society. The VC said this in his inaugural speech. He said that is why the invaders tried to demolish the temples. Temples are designed as environmental protection centres. But now, temple lands are being converted into shopping complexes, which is detrimental to environmental protection.

State President Mullappilli Krishnan Namboothiri presided. A. Gopalakrishnan, Akhil Bharatiya Patron of Seema Jagaran Manch, delivered the keynote address.

The resolution passed by the conference referred to the controversies surrounding the recently concluded Thrissur Pooram. It said that those were the days of sinister efforts to put an end to the hundreds of years-old Thrissur Pooram, part and parcel of Kerala tradition and culture.
