During an address in Kochi on May 10, RSS Sarkaryavah Dattatreya Hosabale paid homage to Swami Chinmayananda, recognising him as a revolutionary figure in the spiritual domain. He is a spiritual Acharya who empowered the people by imparting knowledge, wisdom and self-confidence. He longed to see a global Hindu organisation. He supported the Ram Janmabhoomi campaign and wished to see the materialisation of the Hindu vote bank. Several people tried to ridicule him. His cherished major dreams were Hindu unity and Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. Sarkaryavah pointed out that Sangh fulfilled both.

Sarkaryavah was addressing a programme organised in connection with the Chinmaya Sankaram programme under the auspices of the Global Chinmaya Mission in connection with the 108th birthday celebrations of Swami Chinmayananda and Sri Sankara Jayanthi. When society plunged into consumerist culture and hence moved to the cultureless scenario, it was brought back in the right direction by the cultural luminaries who rose to the occasion whenever the times warranted. They led society by cutting across caste, society, and class differences. Dattatreya Hosabale said that Swami Chinmayananda belongs to the strata of such spiritual geniuses. Swami Chinmayananda was a spiritual giant who possessed the depth of deep oceans and the acme of the Himalayas.

Sarkaryavah said that Kerala is the land of sterling spiritual leaders like Adi Sankara, Sree Narayana Gurudev, Chattambi Swamiji and Mahatma Ayyankali. Swami Chinmayananda was a lustrous star among them. He drew inspiration from the traditional philosophies and thoughts; at the same time, he questioned the superstitions and blind dogmas. It reminds one of the youthful days of Swami Vivekananda. Swami Chinmayananda has intervened in social issues since his younger days. He kept on writing under the pseudonym’ Mochi’. He spoke about the poor people. He thought and said that God lives in every individual; he believed that serving the poor is equal to serving God. ‘Mochi’ means cobbler. He said that Mochi saves the feet of others from thorns and mud. Later on, he made the footwear of spirituality and made us wear it and walk.

Dattatreya Hosabale said that Gitajnan Yajnas (detailed Gita disclosures) is Swami Chinmayananda’s most important contribution. He brought Upanishads and Gita to the public domain. Swami Chinmayananda imparted the Gita in Kali Yuga just like Bhagwan Sri Krishna did in Dwapara Yuga. He gave the entire Hindu community the message of Gita, “Klaibyam Ma Sma Gamah:” (Do not yield to this degrading impotence. It does not become you. Give up such petty weakness of heart and arise).

Sarkaryavah reminded that Swami Chinmayananda conducted Gita disclosures in English instead of Sanskrit. Some people blamed him for it. However, he maintained that any media could be used to propagate Dharma. Imparting the wisdom and knowledge of Bharat to the entire world is the most significant question. Dharma is for karma (action). Swami Chinmayananda was the complete embodiment of such karma.

Swami Swaroopananda, President of Global Mission, felicitated Sarkaryavah.
