Another interfaith relationship met the same fate as the Hindu partner who lost her life in Jharkhand’s Lohardaga. On May 7, Bal Muni Lohra, a woman from the Janjatiya community, was strangled to death allegedly by her husband, Akhtar Ansari. Following the brutal killing, Ansari took Muni’s body to the graveyard to bury her and conceal the mishap. However, the active locals caught him red-handed and informed the parents of Muni, after which, a case was registered against him and the police arrested him under charges of murder.
A First Information Report (FIR number: 13/2024) in this case was registered at the Kisko police station on May 7 by the victim’s father, Laldev Lohra. Based on this complaint, the accused Ansari has been booked under IPC sections 302 (murder), 201 (disappearing evidence), and 31 (acts committed by several people with common intention).

As per the sources, Bal Muni eloped with Ansari almost five years ago and lived in with Akhatr. Her family was against the alliance and hence, cut all ties with her. She gave birth to a baby boy and was reportedly married to Ansari. The marriage was conducted as per Islamic rituals. About the change of name, no information has been made available.
On May 7, the accused Ansari allegedly strangled the victim woman to death in their house. Following the murder he took the body of the woman to the graveyard, where his brother-in-law, Sanaullah Ansari, joined him. The duo had prepared to bury the woman without anyone in the locality knowing about the murder.
Contrary to their plans, the locals did catch them burying a dead body, after which they called up the family members of the woman. The family members accused Ansari and his brother-in-law of killing the woman.
After the police were informed about the murder, they took the body to the Lohardaga Sadar Hospital for the postmortem.
Organiser called up the Station House Officer (SHO) of the Kisko Police Station on May 8. Upon learning the identity of the correspondent, the SHO hung up the call, saying the accused was in judicial custody right now.
While Ansari has been arrested, the officer did not disclose the inaction against Sanaullah.
It is noteworthy that, this is not the only case where an interfaith relationship has met this fate. There is a spate of such cases. Organiser has compiled a list of 60 cases where Hindu women have been killed after coming in contact or relationship with Muslim men.
