Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati announced on Tuesday that her nephew Akash Anand has been relieved of his duties as the party’s national coordinator and her political successor until he reaches full maturity. Taking to X, former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and close aide of late Kashi Ram, Mayawati stated, “I declared Akash Anand as the National Coordinator of BSP and my successor, but in the larger interest of the party and the movement, he is being separated from both these important responsibilities until he attains full maturity.”

Msayawati added, “It is known that BSP, besides being a party, is also a movement for self-respect and self-esteem of Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar and social change for which Kanshi Ram ji and I have dedicated our entire lives, and a new generation is also being prepared to give it momentum.” Akash was promoted to the position of Mayawati’s successor in December 2023.

Mayawati added that the decision to remove Aaksah from the crucial position of the party was taken in the larger interest of the party. However, Mayawati, reiterated that Aakash’s father, Anand Kumar, will continue to fulfill his responsibilities in the party and the movement as before. Therefore, the leadership of BSP is not going to shy away from making every kind of sacrifice in the interest of the party and the movement and in taking forward the caravan of Baba Saheb Dr. Ambedkar.

With Mayawati’s decision signaling a shift in the party’s leadership dynamics, all eyes are now on the BSP’s next steps and the implications for its future trajectory in Uttar Pradesh and beyond.
