On May 6, 2024, a distressing report surfaced about a 12-year-old girl being raped in a mosque in the Kalyan district, a suburb of Mumbai, the capital city of Maharashtra. The accused, identified as Aqdas Chandu, has been apprehended by the police.
According to media reports, the incident occurred in the Bazarpeth police station area of Kalyan. The victim, a local resident, had gone to a store to buy a cake when she stopped at a nearby mosque to get some water because she was thirsty. It was at this point that Aqdas Chandu, a nearby fruit seller, entered the mosque and proceeded to rape the girl.
Chandu reportedly gagged the girl and forcefully hugged her from behind before brutally raping her. He then dragged the girl into the mosque’s restroom, where he continued to rape her. When the victim started screaming for help, Chandu fled the scene. The girl eventually made it back home and informed her family of the horrific incident.
The victim’s family promptly filed an FIR against Aqdas Chandu at the Bazarpeth police station. In the complaint, it was also mentioned that the accused had previously raped the victim a year ago. The police are currently investigating the matter.
A case has been registered against Chandu under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The accused, who resides in the market area and works as a fruit seller, has been arrested. The victim is understandably traumatized by the incident, and her medical examination and counseling are currently being conducted.
