Days after Congress media coordinator Radhika Khera labelled charges of mistreatment by a fellow party worker, Sushil Anand Shukla of Chhattisgarh, the women leader of the grand old party has now tendered her resignation from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress INC on Sunday, May 5.

Taking to the social media platform X, the former Congress spokesperson, Khera, while sharing a copy of her resignation, said that “Today, with great pain, I am renouncing the primary membership of the party and resigning from my post.”

In the letter addressed to the AICC president, Malikarjun Kharge, Khera said that ” It is an established truth since ancient times that those who support religion have been opposed. Examples of this range from Hiranyakashipu to Ravana and Kansa. At present, some people are opposing those who take the name of Bhagwan Shri Ram in the same way.”

She further said that “For every Hindu, the birthplace of Bhagwan Shri Ram holds great significance with its scarcity, and while every Hindu considers his life successful just by seeing Ram Lalla, some people are opposing it.

pic.twitter.com/6hjgSDcXV0

Expressing her pain over the mistreatment by the fellow partymen, the former Congress leader furter remarked that “the party to which I have given more than 22 years of my life, where I worked with full honesty from NSUI to AICC’s media department, today I have to face such intense opposition because I couldn’t stop myself from visiting Ramlalla in Ayodhya.

I have always fought for justice of others from every platform, but when it came to justice, I found myself defeated in the party. Being a devotee of Bhagwan Ram and a woman, I am deeply hurt, added the former Congress leader.

Allegation of mistreatment

It must be noted that a row had erupted earlier after Khera accused a fellow party worker of the Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) for allegedly misbehaving.

According to the reports, a serious verbal confrontation had occurred between Khera and the head of the communication department of the Chhattisgarh unit of the Congress party following the party’s president Mallikarjun Kharge’s rally in Janjgir Champa of Chhattisgarh on April 30.

Later on, Khera was seen in tears in the party’s headquarters, and a video of the same had also gone viral over the internet. In the viral video, Radhika was heard narrating her ordeal to a senior leader of the Congress party. The spokesperson for the Congress party was further heard asserting that she is going to resign from the party as she has never faced such humiliation in her entire life.

BJP reacts to the resignation

Reacting to the Khera’s resignation, the Chhattisgarh’s Chief Minister (CM), Vishnu Deo Sai while speaking to the media, said, ” For the past few days, its been in the discussion that the national level women spokesperson was insulted by her own people in the Congress Bhavan (headquarter).

देश में… pic.twitter.com/273GNTjhBH

She was inconsolable and cried while the Congressmen talk about women’s justice. There is difference between their words and actions, due to which the Congress is in a sorry state today. Those who ruled the country for 55-60 years are today moving towards extinction, added the CM.

It is worth mentioning here that earlier the CM had also lashes out at the Congress party over its treatment of the women leaders. Taking to X over the row, the CM had earlier said that “the Chhattisgarh’s communication department chief of the Congress party has misbehaved and fought with with his own party’s female national spokesperson, Radhika Khera. The situation even reached the stage of filing a report at the police station. The anti-women mentality of the Congress party is well known. This party has been insulting mothers and sisters since always.”

Several leaders quit Congress over party’s decision to turndown Ram Mandir invitation

It is worth mentioning here, that a number of Congress leaders have opted to part ways with the grand old party after differences over the party’s stand on Ram Mandir. The list includes notable names like former Congress spokespersons Rohan Gupta, Gaurav Ballabh and Acharya Pramod Krishnan, who was expelled by the party for six years.

After expulsion from the party, Krishnan has openly admitted that it was his participation in the consecration ceremony of Bhagwan Ram in Ayodhya that didn’t bode well with a few Congressmen who have a dominance over the party’s day-to-day working.
