Guwahati: In a dramatic turn of events, authorities in Silchar, Assam, have reported a shooting incident involving an accused individual in an attempted abduction and rape case. The incident unfolded in Lakhipur, a town located in Assam’s Cachar district, on the night of March 19.

According to police sources, the accused, identified as Jamir Uddin, was being transported to the crime scene to aid in the recovery of a purported weapon allegedly used in the crime. However, as the police convoy approached the designated area, rape accused Jamir Uddin made a bold attempt to flee custody. In a desperate bid to escape, he reportedly attacked a police constable, prompting the authorities to resort to the use of force.

In the ensuing confrontation, Jamir Uddin sustained a bullet injury, but it was non-fatal. He is currently under medical care at the Silchar Medical College Hospital (SMCH), where he is being treated for his injuries.

This incident stems from a heinous crime that occurred on March 16th, in which Jamir Uddin and four accomplices allegedly abducted a woman while she was out for a walk with a friend. Following the swift action by the victim’s family, the police were able to apprehend four of the kidnappers, including Jamir Uddin. The victim was safely recovered, and another woman suspected of involvement in the abduction was also taken into custody.

During interrogation, the victim identified Jamir Uddin as the main perpetrator and revealed that she had been subjected to physical assault and rape. Jamir Uddin subsequently confessed to using a weapon during the abduction.

The events of March 19th unfolded when a police team accompanied Jamir Uddin to locate the weapon, which he had reportedly discarded in an abandoned location. However, upon reaching the site, Jamir Uddin launched an assault on a police constable and attempted to escape under the cover of darkness. Faced with this threat, the police were compelled to open fire to prevent his evasion.

It has been disclosed that Jamir Uddin, in addition to the charges related to abduction and rape, is also known to be involved in the illegal smuggling of cows and operates a racket of cattle theft. His arrest in connection with these serious crimes has been welcomed by local organisations, who are urging authorities to conduct a thorough investigation to ensure that Jamir Uddin faces appropriate punishment in court.

As the community awaits further developments in this case, concerns regarding public safety and the enforcement of justice remain paramount in the minds of residents in Silchar and beyond.
