Tensions escalated in the Kamgar Colony of Chikalthana as a group of Muslims allegedly disrupted the regular evening Aarti at a Hanuman Mandir on Tuesday, March 12. The incident, unfolding amidst the commencement of the month of Ramzan on March 11, sparked communal unrest in the area.

Eyewitnesses recounted how Islamists forcefully entered the Hanuman Mandir during the customary Tuesday evening Arati, issuing warnings to Hindus against conducting prayers for a month. Their demands were explicit – the cessation of Aarti ceremonies throughout the month of Ramzan.

In defiance of this intrusion, the Hindu community organised a massive Maha Aarti on March 13, spearheaded by Shiv Sena (Shinde Faction) Zilla President Rajendra Janjal. Over 1500 Hindus participated in the event, using it as a platform to express their dissent against the act of religious intimidation.

However, the aftermath of the clash revealed a grim reality. Reports surfaced of three Hindu youths suffering brutal assaults during the altercation. As communal tensions surged, law enforcement resorted to mild lathicharge to contain the situation, further exacerbating the atmosphere of fear and mistrust.

The genesis of the conflict stemmed from conflicting prayer schedules, as both Hindu and Muslim communities engaged in prayers via loudspeakers on Tuesday. Stone-pelting and aggressive sloganeering punctuated the clash, leading to injuries and widespread panic among the populace.

Among the injured were Avinash Bondre, Sagar Banjare, and Shubham Rathod, who were rushed to Zilla Hospital for medical attention. Shubham Rathod recounted the harrowing experience, detailing how they were ambushed with stones en route to the Hanuman Mandir, forcing them to flee in terror.

In response to the violence, two separate cases have been filed. Krishna Nage, one of the victims, lodged a complaint identifying assailants and detailing the assault on fellow Hindus. Meanwhile, Assistant Police Officer Vishnu Munde filed a separate case against rioters involved in the ensuing chaos.

The accused named in the complaints include residents of Kamgar Colony and several others allegedly involved in the disruptive activities. Investigations into the matter are ongoing, as authorities strive to restore peace and communal harmony in the strife-torn locality.
