Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s virtual inauguration of the Tata Group’s Rs 27,000 crore indigenous Semiconductor Assembly and Test Facility at Jagiroad in Assam’s Morigaon district signifies a monumental leap towards industrialisation. This, alongside similar initiatives in Gujarat, marks a combined investment of Rs 1,26,000 crores in semiconductor chip production/assembly facilities, underlining the Government’s commitment to fostering technological advancement and economic growth.

Speaking from the site of the upcoming facility, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed profound gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for his instrumental role in overcoming geographical barriers and facilitating Assam’s integration into the national industrial landscape. Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma hailed this milestone as evidence of the North East’s newfound prominence under the current administration, dispelling notions of neglect and affirming the region’s pivotal role in India’s development narrative.

“In the journey towards industrialisation, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, ‘geographical barriers’ are no longer hindrances,” stated Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma. Assam and the rest of the North East are witnessing unprecedented attention and investment, transforming the region’s economic landscape.” He emphasised the semiconductor unit’s transformative potential, lauding the Tata Group’s visionary investment and pledging unwavering government support to create a conducive environment for industrial growth.

“This investment of Rs 27,000 crores by the Tata Group in Jagiroad shall significantly contribute to the economic growth of the State and the country,” CM Himanta Biswa Sarma affirmed. “It has the potential to provide direct employment to as many as 15,000 youth of the State, along with indirect employment opportunities to an equal number of job-seekers.”

Referring to the foundation stone laying as an emotional moment, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma acknowledged the tireless efforts of Industry Minister Bimal Bora. In a call to action, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma urged the people of Assam to embrace positivity and forsake the culture of strikes and protests, envisioning a future where the state assumes its rightful position as a beacon of progress within the Indian Union.

The virtual inauguration ceremony witnessed the participation of Union Ministers Ashwini Vaishnaw and Rajeev Chandrashekhar, along with Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran. Deputy Chairman of the Assam Legislative Assembly, Dr Numal Momin, alongside key members of the Assam Cabinet, underscored the collective commitment towards propelling the State towards a brighter, industrially prosperous future.

As Assam embarks on this transformative journey, fueled by innovation and collaboration, the inauguration of the semiconductor facility stands as a testament to Prime Minister Modi’s vision of inclusive development and economic resurgence across every corner of the nation.
