In a swift response to objectionable content circulated on social media platforms, the Shardanagar Police in Lakhimpur Kheri district apprehended an individual accused of making derogatory remarks against Hindu deities, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and employing abusive language targeting a specific community. The arrest was effected on Monday, March 11, within a mere 12-hour window from the time of the offensive post going live.

According to official sources, the accused, identified as Mastram alias Mastu, a resident of Sirsi village under the jurisdiction of Shardanagar police station, triggered widespread outrage by disseminating offensive content online, disparaging a particular community, venerable figures such as Shri Ram, and the Prime Minister himself.

Acting swiftly upon receiving reports of the objectionable post gaining traction on social media platforms, the Shardanagar Police launched a comprehensive operation resulting in the swift apprehension of the accused. The arrested individual, Mastram alias Mastu, son of late Kandhai, resides in Sirsi police station’s vicinity within the Shardanagar district of Kheri.

In a statement issued by Inspector in-charge Brijesh Kumar Maurya, it was confirmed that a case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including Section 298/504, 505(2), and also under Section 67 of the Information Technology Act. The case has been designated as Case No. 47/2024.

The police, acting upon the severity of the matter, had been actively pursuing the accused prior to his apprehension. Subsequent to the arrest, law enforcement authorities successfully recovered the mobile phone believed to have been utilised in disseminating the offensive content from the possession of the accused.

This swift and decisive action by the Shardanagar Police underscores their commitment to upholding law and order, particularly in cases involving the propagation of divisive and inflammatory content on digital platforms. The successful operation serves as a testament to the vigilance and proactive measures adopted by law enforcement agencies to curb instances of online hate speech and communal discord. Further legal proceedings are underway as the investigation progresses.
