Security forces, in a major success, have busted a Maoist camp that was operational under the core Maoist zone of the Tonto police station of West Singhbhum district in Jharkhand, informed Chaibasa police on Thursday, March 7.

The camp was unrevealed following a joint operation launched by the personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) and Jharkhand Jaguar (JJ) in the Tonto area of Chaibasa.

During the operation, an operational Maoist camp designed to accommodate a total of 95 Maoist cadres was recovered and destroyed subsequently. The forces also seized explosive materials and other daily use stuff from the camp.

According to the information provided by the Chaibasa police, the joint team seized a total of 9 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) weighing around two kg each, along with codex wire, syringes, electric wire, a drilling machine, and other material from the spot.

Additionally, the joint team has also recovered a banner pertaining to the outlawed CPI Maoist from the vicinity. The recovery also includes life saving drugs and other material pertaining to daily use, according to the police in a series of tweets on X.

The operation was launched days after the forces also unearthed and destroyed another IED weighing around 5 kg from the Tonto police station limits itself. The recovery was made in a joint operation conducted by the CRPF and CoBRA.

It is to be noted that the Tonto region is considered a hotbed of insurgency, and the forces have been running counter insurgency operations in the area at regular intervals, leading to the recovery of IEDs and the busting of Maoist camps.

Earlier, in a similar operation launched on February 29, the forces had unearthed another operational Maoist camp in the forest area of Tonto. The said camp had a space to accommodate around 60-70 Maoist cadres. After the recovery of the camp, the joint team had also seized Maoist banners in large numbers from the spot.

Maoist’s monument destroyed in Dantewada

In another development, a joint team of security forces comprising of personnel from Bastar fighters and women commandos of District Reserve Guard (DRG) have destroyed a Maoist memorial erected near forest of Bechapaal area of Dantewada district.

According to the reports, the joint team was out on a routine search operation in the Mirtur area when they came across the Maoist monument near Bechpaal and destroyed it subsequently.

Significantly, offensive campaigns against the extremists are in full swing in insurgency-hit regions of the country, as it is assumed that the war against the left wing insurgents has reached a decisive juncture. This comes amidst the fact that forces in recent years have managed to establish key strategic forward bases in core insurgency zones, providing them with an edge over the Maoists, who earlier used to dominate these areas without any interruption.
