An off duty Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) company commander has been hacked to death by the cadres of banned CPI (Maoist) in insurgency-hit Bijapur of Chhattisgarh on Sunday, February 18.
The fateful incident occurred when the company commander was reportedly buying vegetables in a local market under the Kutru police station limits of Bijapur, when members of the Small Action Team (SAT) of the extremist hacked him to death with a sharp weapon.
The martyred company commander of the CAF has been identified as Tijau Ram Bhuarya, who was stationed at Darbha camp. According to the reports, the extremists also dropped leaflet before fleeing the spot in which they have claimed responsibility of the brutal killing of the Bhuarya.
A police team was immediately rushed to the spot after the incident and extensive search operations are being conducted in the vicinity to nab the extremists who were involved in the attack, informed an official of the Bijapur police.
The incident occurred amidst the security forces in a significant success unfurled the tricolor in the Puvarti village (an alleged headquarters of the extremists) of Sukma for the first time, situated on the borders of Bijapur and Sukma Puvarti is a long held bastion of the Maoist, associated with top Maoist commander Madavi Hidma who was commanding the strongest battalion of the Maoist till recent. Hidma has been reportedly promoted to the Central Committee of the Maoist.
It is to be noted that in a first, the security forces in recent few months have established as many as 14 camps in the core Maoist zone of South Bastar, a region considered as the strongest bastions of the left wing insurgents across the country.
Notably, the establishment of these security camps not only indicates the strengthened positioning of the security forces in the regions earlier considered a hotbed of insurgency, but it is also expected to play a determining role in fulfilling the government’s resolve of providing basic facilities to the residents who have been deprived of facilities such as education, healthcare and benefits of government schemes since always.
